DAVA hosts beach volleyball tournament

The Dominica Amateur Volleyball Association will be staging a beach volleyball tournament at Layou Beach, on Sunday 4th September.

The event is scheduled to get under way at 10 a.m.; and will feature players from teams that participated in the 2011 National Volleyball League, as well as other beach volleyball enthusiasts.

Among the players expected to make appearances are Dominica’s representatives at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Beach Volleyball Round One Olympic qualifiers held in Antigua last year. Both male and female teams will be going on to the second round qualifiers later this year. The players include David Toussaint and Ronald Bruno (team 1), Lincoln Riviere and Ray Robinson (Team 2); and Lorraine Lockhart and Catherine Francis.

Prizes for the winning teams include round trip to St. Lucia by ferry, courtesy of L’Express des Iles (Men); and a weekend at Island Bay Hotel and Dive Centre at Mero (Women). Other prizes will include drinks and other items sponsored by Dominica Brewery and Beverages and Jolly’s Pharmacy (agents for Monster energy drinks.

Trophies donated by the National Lotteries Commission will also be distributed to 1st and 2nd place teams.

Petro Caribe has also contributed to the staging of the event by providing a cash donation.
