Digicel announces two days of Grassroots Cricket Clinic

Richard Stanton presents package to Delvin Esprit

Digicel, proud sponsor of West Indies cricket, today announced the second leg of the Digicel Grassroots Clinic programme which will be held at the Windsor Park Stadium on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th October 2011.

Over 70 under-17 aspiring young cricket players from various secondary schools including North East Comprehensive High School, Portsmouth and Castle Bruce Secondary Schools will be put through their paces during the two-day clinic. All clusters and coaches are expected to participate.

Delvin Esprit, Cricket Development Officer of Dominica’s Grassroots Cricket Clinic, said; “The players have been training every Saturday. They are well rounded and have benefited from a number of training initiatives including health care, food and nutrition coaching. The Clinic is a great opportunity with one of the main objectives being to select players to play at the regional under 17 games scheduled to take pace in Trinidad in December 2011.”

Digicel Dominica General Manager, Richard Stanton, said; “Our mission at Digicel – as proud sponsors of West Indies cricket since 2004 – is to find new and exciting ways to bring the full experience and excitement of the game to everyone and to provide the necessary resources to help grow West Indies cricket to its true potential so that players and fans alike can enjoy its benefits. As such, we are thrilled to host the second leg of the Digicel Grassroots Cricket Clinic in Dominica, which gives the young players a fantastic chance to develop and improve their cricketing skills.

“We would like to thank the Dominica Cricket Association for their support in managing and providing local coaches such as Anderson Burton, Ray Casimir, Thomas Kentish and Kelvin James who are dedicated in assisting the young players,” continued Stanton.

The first leg of the Digicel Grassroots Cricket Clinic was held in Dominica in April 2011. A total of 120 U-15 students participated and benefited in the development of their cricket skills. The aspiring U-15 cricketers’ clinic was climaxed with a number of big games held in July at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth.
