DOC under the microscope

Financial activities of the Dominica Olympics Committee (DOC) are one of many issues member associations are asking to be addressed at a Special General Meeting which they’ve requested that the organization convene.

In a letter dated April 25, the members wrote to the DOC general secretary instructing that the special meeting be convened “under the powers of Article 18.1 of the Bye-Laws of the Dominica Olympic Committee.”

“The purpose of our desire to convene this meeting is based on the principles enshrined in the Olympic Charter of fair play according to pre agreed rules each of which are central to any Olympic Committee,” they wrote.

The members appear to be concerned about many issues which they say must be addressed when the meeting is held.

They are asking for clarification on the “composition, role and functions of the Athletes Commission, the legitimacy of the Athletes Reps who voted at the 2013 Election of Officers, the denial of Member  Associations from voting at the 2013 Election of Officers, the non acceptance of nominations submitted by a number of affiliated member associations.”

Furthermore, they are concerned about what they described as ‘inconsistencies’ with “the number of nominations by associations.”

They are also demanding answers on the “financial activities at the DOC from immediately preceding the 2012 Olympics to the present.”

The member associations are asking “for the avoidance of doubt that the meeting shall not be called more than 15 days after the receipt of the request.”

The letter was signed by ten affiliate associations of the DOC including the Dominica Table Tennis Association, The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association, The Dominica Football Association and The Dominica Bridge Association, among others.

DNO understands that the special meeting will be held next week.

Below is a copy of the letter sent to the DOC by the affiliate members.

It’s an ill wind that blows nobody good in this country and it must be stopped. Wicked and unscrupulous men using power of high office to fleece, loot, plunder and defraud, they hide behind a fake persona and flashy wardrobe. they deceive many. The wheels of justice turns slowly but it does turn. They conspire, they tell lies, they perceive that they call the shots. When the role is called up yonder, where will you be?
