Dominica Olympic Committee receives road bike

On Saturday, July 20, 2010, the Vice President of the Pan American Cycling Confederation Mr. Trevor Bailey held a workshop at the Fort Young Hotel for the newly re-established Dominica Cycling Association (DCA).

He not only addressed strategies to aid the organization of the DCA, but talked about proper training methods, proper bike fittings, being physical fit, eating proper foods, discipline and developing proper habits as a cyclist.

He also praised the effort of the DCA to get this sport revived here in Dominica, since the International Olympic Committee has recognized cycling as an official sport since 1896. The majority of the Caribbean islands have programs and races to develop cycling as governed by the International Cycling Union.

He noted the recent drive to reestablish the cycling association in Dominica since the island’s natural terrain provides great training and racing conditions. He urged the members of the club who were present to strive to be diligent to represent Dominica at one of the upcoming competitions in 2011.

At the end of the workshop he presented a bike valued at US $2,500 to the Dominica Olympic Committee, which in turn will be turned over to the Dominica Cycling Association at a later date.

Secretary of the DCA Joel Challenger further notes that the “Dominica Cycling Association will seek to create public awareness of the health advantages involved in this physical activity, as well of the preparation of ambassadors to represent Dominica in this sport”.

Any individual interested in this venture, please don’t hesitate to contact the Dominica Cycling Association at 1 (767) 448 7010 or contact Joel Challenger secretary of the Dominica Cycling Association at 1(767) 615-5675.

I’m a dominican and cyclist living in st croix with interest of forming a cycling club and sport center where I or we can sell the bikes and all the other gabs that make complete protective riding in dominica, I would like to talk with the association president or secretary about plans of getting things on its way. This is one of the best exercise one can do to lose weight and to keep your presure stable. I have rode from marigot to roseau through bells in 2007 in 2hour 40minutes and in 2009 I rode from portsmouth to roseau in 1 hour and 45 minutes and i see the coast line as a perfect area for sunday morning races.imagine having races regularly from portsmouth to roseau lots of villages on the coast line thats a boost for this side of d/ca passing all through mahaut canefield to town and back to portsmouth. hey its just about 30 miles one way, a good workout on sunday morning 60 miles is perfect about 3 to 4 hours workout, then we can invite the countries close to dominica to come join us in competition, then those who takes it seriously the young people could represent dominica abroad.everytime I visit dominica I travel with my racing bike.i’m looking forward to get support from the cycling association in putting this club together. I would like to meet other cyclist in d/ca to make that portsmouth to roseau ride to feel what it would be like to be a top cyclist.i’m a member of the st croix cycling federation and I take part in many races in st croix. my tel #340 771 4557 the presedent or secretary can call or local cyclist could call. true dominican if I can form the club/sport center I would return home. and i’ll help train the cyclist.lets do it.take control of obesity, stop eating junk food.

@mouth of the south: every great success comes with great sacrifices– To make money it requires one to spend money– Sometimes to build up you must first break down. = we want to go forward as a nation then some sacrifices must be made, even in some areas that may look insignificant.– the petty things of life which people usually overlook, sometimes may just be the most important ones.
