The Dominica Tennis Association announces it’s 2017 Caribbean Alliance Insurance National Junior Tennis Tournament. This tournament is open to all Tennis players under the age of 18 and will feature two categories – Under 14 and Under 18 – for both Boys and Girls.
The tournament will be held at the Dominica Grammar School Hard Courts from April 22nd to May 6th. Registration is free. Tournament Director, Dave Baron, has said that this year’s tournament is expected to be a very exciting one and he is especially pleased to partner with Caribbean Alliance Insurance who is sponsoring the tournament.
According to Mr. Baron, the tournament is expected to run for three weekends and it is hoped that from this tournament, a team will be selected to represent Dominica at a regional tournament scheduled for a little later this year. Mr. Baron added that there are a number of young tennis players on the island and while facilities remain a major hurdle, a number of these young players are being trained through the efforts of Andy Carter who is expected to be an instrumental part of this year’s Junior tournament.
It is also expected that a little later this year, a Men’s and Women’s open tournament will be organized. The Dominica Tennis Association encourages all participants to register early and registration can be done at their prospective schools or thru DTA officials.
I don’t know but these announcements to the public is so lacking the necessary information. I mean you talk about Dominica Tennis Association but a search of the internet will not reveal a contact number for the association or the members, neither does this so called news article which asks interested persons to register through their DTA officials. I mean who are the officials? How do you get in contact with them? If someone new is interested in the sports how do they make the connections?
i hope what the tennis association is saying is true.
i am a tennis player in Dominica and i`m very unhappy with how tennis is in Dominica.
we in dominica have some young Natural talent but we have to remember that these players won`t be young
forever and if the Dominica tennis association don`t act fast these athletes will go into others sports such as cricket and football.the only way to keep these young people interested is to have tournaments regularly and to send players away to compete regionally .so i hope this is a step forward.
Also for tennis you need a smooth flat surface, even for lawn and clay courts. the grammar school yard is knows for eating sneakers. it is anything but smooth and surfaced.
Quick question? Where do members of the Dominica Tennis Association practice and train? I seriously want to know, because i hope it is not on the dilapidated court at the prestigious Old Dominica Sports Club, not the disgraceful Groto – home for the homeless. For those who knew the club in the 80’s and 90’s, you would also be ashamed at the state it is now.
non the less, congrats on taking part, and i wish our young players all the best, given the very limited resources that you must have been working with. Again the Minister of Sports and Education seems to be oblivious about the development of sports in Dominica.
