The Dominica Table Tennis Association (DTA) has received an invitation from the St. Lucia National Table Association to participate in the OECS/Caribbean Senior Table Tennis Championships.
The event is expected to be held from August 26 – Sepetmber 1 2013.
“The Association will try to do all that is possible to attend, as it sees this tournament as an opportunity to further launch and develop our Table Tennis Program; provide the young players with the opportunity to compete with players from the sub-region and wider region and to bring back Table Tennis as one of the more popular sports on the island,” a release from the DTA stated.
The Association will be using the top players in both the boys’ and girls’ category of the 2013 Sports Division’s Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championships as the base for a more transparent selection process; along with training and trial matches with other qualified players; with the hope of arriving at the best possible selection which will be in the long term interest of our development process.
A delegation of 16 persons has been invited. The delegation consists of 4 males and 4 females for the team events, 1 U21 Male, 1 U 21 Female, 1 Over 50 Male, 2 coaches, 1 Delegate and an umpire.
The events will consist of 10 categories: Men’s Team, Ladies Team, Men’s Singles, Ladies Singles, Men’s Doubles, Ladies Doubles, Mixed Doubles, U 21 Singles Men, U 21 Singles Ladies, O 50 Singles (men).
$13,687.23 will be required if a full contingent is to participate in the games.
The association will use the months of June and July to attempt to raise the necessary funds to get the players to this important tournament. Teams from Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Antigua, Grenada and St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Aruba, Curacao, Cayenne, St Kitts and BVI are expected to participate.
Dominicans, Larrysa Dover and Gem Eloi, are the defending Ladies Doubles champions of the last OECS Championships held in St. Vincent in 2011.
i personally know that for the past years there hasnt been any competitive tournaments and by that i mean national tournaments.it doest take alot to organise a tournament does it, if the aassociation wasnt stagnant mabe table tennis would be more than what it is today for me personally i think we need a new president at the top, the current one has proven that he isnt up for the job so for the best interest of the sport there should be a new drive to get things back on track and we should start with fresh faces at the helm

Good job Gem. Keep that fire for sports burning. HEY!!!
it is time for table tennis to move forward in dominica too long we see things hype up when a tournament is around the corner and when its all done its back to square 1.its time to organise some serious national tournaments so we can truly see who has the true talent rather than just pick n choose individuals to travel hoping for the best.
