Long jumper David Registe of Palmer, who owns a collection of conference and national medals from his All-American career at UAA, on Tuesday added an international medal to the mix.
Registe, 23, captured the bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, with a leap of 25 feet. 10 3/4 inches, less than an inch short of his personal best.
Registe’s medal-seizing jump came on the second of the three-time Division II NCAA All-American’s jumps in the competition. Registe was representing Dominica — he holds dual citizenship.
I AM PROUD OF YOU AND YOUR DECISION TO REPRESENT DOMINICA. THANKS YOU FOR MAKING US PROUD.I PRAY FOR GOOD HEALTH , LONG LIFE AND FUTURE SUCCESS FOR YOU. I DON’T KNOW YOU YOU ARE,I AM ALSO PROUD TO BE DOMINICAN,I ACCEPT ALL OUR SUCCESS STORIES .GOD BLESS YOU
We have Dominicans – some born of Dominican parentage andliving in far off places such as Alaska, doing s proud. I wish the local media would do a full expose on athletes such as David, so that rank-and-file Dominicans can better partake of the achievement of David on behalf of Dominica. CONGRATULATIONS and keep reaching for the gold.
Great job! A well deserved result after all your hard work and dedication to the sport.
Congratulations. Dominica is proud of her son.
Earlier this year, Registe was named the GNAC’s Most Outstanding Male Performer after winning the long jump, 100 meters and 200 meters at the conference meet, where he also ran on two of the Seawolves winning relay teams. Registe became the first athlete in conference history to win five events at the conference meet.
Registe was named UAA’s Athlete of the Year in 2009.

Well done Mr. Registe
What does his dual citizenship have to do with the story? Who was he competing for? Should the US claim the medal?
Hi David
Congratulations to you for deciding to represent Dominica and most of all for placing in the top 3 in your event.
As always continue to stay healthy, eat healthy, drink healthy, remain focus and tenacious as that yields brilliant dividends in the end. Fantastic example for other young Dominicans to emulate.
