ROSEAU Dominica: Dominican athletes will soon be heading off of the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique to prepare for the 2010 track and field seasons. Athletic officials in Dominica have been lamenting over the lack of facilities to train on the islands. Some claim that athletics have been in a battle with other sports for sporting grounds and seem to be on the losing end.
In reports on Trackalerts.com on Jan 6 and 8 school representative on the Dominica Amateur Athletic Association, Joel Hamilton, said the sport has been pushed aside in favour of cricket and football. Hamilton called on the Dominica Sports Division to pay more interest in track and field as it is the foundation for all sports.
