Dominica has secured its first gold medal at the CARIFTA Games now taking in place in the Bahamas.
Shanee Angol won gold in the U-17 Girl’s Javelin with a throw of 43.89 meters.
Angol is a 15 year-old student of the Pierre Charles Secondary School (PCSS).
At the same time Thea Lafond, a US-based athlete representing Dominica, secured bronze in the U-20 girl’s high jump.
She jumped 1.80 meters.
Dominica’s medal count now stands at four. La fond has also won a bronze medal in the Girls Under 20 Triple Jump while Chelsey Linton took bronze in the Girls Pentathlon Open.
2012 Olympic participant, Luan Gabriel, placed 8th in the Girls 200 m Finals.
What i do not understood is if truth be told how you’re no longer actually much more neatly-liked than youu
might be right now. You are so intelligent.
You know thus considerably with regrds to this matter, produced me for my part imagine it from a lot of
various angles. Its like men annd women don’t
seem to be fascinated except it’s one thing to do with Lady gaga!
Your personql stuffs great. Alwayys deal with it up!
Congratulations Shanee Angol on winning your gold medal. You have made Grandbarians everywhere so proud. Continue the great work. Hats off to the other winners and the entire Dominica team.
Congratulations Shanee.
Nice.Congratulations Shanee Angol Dominica,GrandBay girl aiming high.Big Up.
“Dominica has secured its first gold medal at the CARIFTA Games now taking in place in the Bahamas” DNO I believe that this statement is incorrect. Or are trying to convey that we won our first gold medal at this current track and field event… not too sure
Dominica first secured a GOLD medal at the Carifta Games way back in 1990 in the girls under 20 JAVELIN then we went on to capture GOLD in the girls under 17 200 metres in 2012. Check the facts
omg she has grandbay roots… congrats gandbarians… nnot all bad things come from grandbay… good things too
true
on the bad alone they like to focus..
Congratulations to you and the rest of the Dominica Team and PCSS from a very proud Dominican and Grand Bayrian Rio here we come
Mr Prime Minister, the precedent has been set. National calypso Monarchs receive tangible gifts from the national purse. Carnival Queens are similarly rewarded. Cricketers are tangibly recognized. What about our youth competing on the front line against countries from Jamaica to Guyana? A gold medal in CARIFTA is no small feat!!
It should be noted also that Luan Gabriel got a gold medal in the 200 meters in CARIFTA 2012. Shanee Angol also got the bronze in Javelin last year. These kids need to be encouraged. They can, at least be offered university scholarships to encourage them to pursue tertiary education.
I hope that student athlete Shanee Angol from the Pierre Charles Secondary School in grand Bay will have a voice in Cabinet via the Honourable Minister for Youth and Sports and Parliamentary Representative of the Grand Bay Constituency, Hon. Justina Charles, widow of deceased Prime Minister, Pierre Charles. (Talking ’bout complex).
NB: When the PM congratulated Shane Shillingford and pledged to recognize him tangibly, someone from South City questioned where was the Minister for Sports and why was the PM encroaching on the Minister’ turf. The comment said that the Minister was a “moo moo”. Here’s your chance, Justina, to prove her wrong. You can start by congratulating Shanee.
Congratulations, Shanee!! Study as hard as you practice.
Grand Bay / Minister’s turf.
That’s an amazing throw for her age! Keep it up!
South City Roots that, Congratulations Shanee.
Not posting my comment just shows the level of thinking we as a people have.No curse words didn’t mention anyone’s name in any .Oops!! i guess my comments fell on the floor of ur news desk and someone threw it in waste basket.
Beautiful young lady too. Congratulations to all the athletes who gave it their best particularly under trying and uncomfortable conditions. Athletes preparing for competition need to be comfortable – physically and mentally. To have athletes unable to eat the right stuff , sleep on benches at an airport is unacceptable any day, anytime.
The athletes are ambassadors and deserve to be treated as such. Our government spent thousands of dollars to bring redundant groups and individuals to Guadeloupe for a substandard trade fair( why we needed two bellere groups , two quadrille groups etc ). A few months following this useless expenditure the same government spent thousands in tickets and accommodation to take a few people of their pack to Guadeloupe to see a geothermal plant.
Today and in the past they are delivering building material to their supporters around the island. Hundreds of thousands go down the drain or in the pokets of lawyers only to denegrate our constituition and to fight crimes they commit. On the turn of chair they can order lawyers to fly to China, Dubai etc to take care of their own personal affairs – you know how much it cost to buy a last minute ticket to dubai or China? All of this on our money. I won’t even mention the over inflated pay check of those who fan the flame and place the rotten, I fested wood in the fire for this criminal enterprise. ( yes I am angry)
Our athletes on the other hand cannot eat , sleep and travel comfortably to represent us at the CARIFTA games. 25 years ago we traveled as athletes under better conditions than our elite athletes today? Are you kidding me ? After looking at the ripple effect of Ussaine Bolts, Brian Lara, Kimani James , Ato Boldon ( on NBCas commentator having the opportunity to shine light on Trinidad and Tobago). Back I. As an athlete who did the Windward Island intersecondsry School competition in the 80 and mid 90’s we did not have the best accommodation – in fact we did the camp type accommodation. For example we stayed at the Comprehensive High school compound in Lucia but then again but nevertheless we were happy. Not only that when the meet was staged in Dominica the athletes from the other islands had the same type of accommodation. That was the norm based on the circumstances. I say all of this to highlight the fact that 25 years later our athletes traveling to a much more prestigious event are reduced to substandard accommodation.
This is the Party in power who claim that they are ” youthfuller” if there is such a word and are for the young people. What have they done for the young people of this country.
It is downright rediculous when this government has spent much of our resources enriching themselves and defending their corrupt behaviors. How long are we going to tolerate this level mediocrity and ineptness from this administration. How long are we going to run this country on an empty gas tank.
Another Sout City production.Congratulations to u Shanee,we getting ready for ur parade thru the streets of g/bay.It is a shame that after 24 hours there are 8 comments for shanee’s effort.I guess it’s not another murder or drug bust so all u mouth silent in all u mod……We can do it all and we do it very well:culture, sports, stand up for ourselves and family and even a murder now and then(not that i condon taking a life). We get recognition and alot of unwanted attention when the news is of a violent nature(Zor parnee wespay pou nous).Congrats once again shanee, nuffrespect u you girl.
here we have it after these young people have done their best they are stock out in la la land whith no where to sleep tonite , the minister of sports should be fired ASAP. THIS is shameful well again nothing surprises us when it comes to DAMINICA SOS OUR ATHLETS ARE STOCK OUT THERE WITH NO MONEY TO PAY FOR A HOTEL ROOM.
How do you know that. I didnt read that in the news article. . Just tell me
Grand bay people should ask Mrs. Charles to stand down
Congratulations to all our winners. Luan must be encouraged as I am sure she must be feeling pretty down right now.
Brilliant, Congratulations!
Congratulations Shanee Angol, your school PCSS; your community Grand Bay and Dominica are all proud of you. Congratulations also to your coach Walson Pacquette. Felicitations!
While everyone felt that our athletes should be congratulated, to which I have no problem, but I also felt that Mr. Matt. Peltier and Q95 should be also congratulated. We are all aware off the criticisms that have been pelted at Q95 by supporters of the Labor Party, therefore, what sin have I committed when I asked that they too should be congratulated. If you are also going to delete this comment,I would like to know what have I said that is so offensive.
Well done.Thank you.

The first person that should be congratulated is Mr. Matt Peltier of Q95. The many people in Red including certain senior Lawyers whose intension is to close down Q95 must seriously think again.
