Patrick John granted injunction against DFA

The High Court in Dominica has granted an injunction to past president of the Dominica Football Association (DFA), Patrick John, to prevent the special conference of the DFA from electing a vice president on Saturday July 27.

The AGM had mandated the DFA executive to do so after it failed to ratify someone in that position at its last conference.

John was banned by the FIFA disciplinary committee for two years in 2011 and later a DFA conference voted unanimously to suspend him for the remainder of his term of office until 2015.

He subsequently filed a law suit through through his lawyer J. Gildon Richards, challenging the decision of the conference to suspend him.

As part of the suit, John sought an injunction from the court restraining the DFA and Etienne (the defendants), by themselves or through their agents and or servants, from obstructing hindering or otherwise preventing him (the claimant) from resuming and continuing the performance of his functions as the “lawfully elected president of the DFA from November 24, 2013 to July 25, 2015.”

DFA officials are not commenting on the matter since president Glen Etienne is out of state on DFA official business but a source close to the matter stated, “the injunction was filed ex parte and the date set for the matter is August 6 and so it means that the DFA special conference as mandated by the AGM is off and cannot be held this week.”

John got himself in hot water with FIFA in an alleged bribery case involving Mohamed bin Hammam, a member of FIFA’s executive committee. FIFA later dropped the charge but found John guilty of infringement of its statutes and fined him n US$3,300.

John appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) but he eventually withdrew the appeal, forcing CAS to cancel hearings into the entire matter.

FIFA did NOT drop the charge of Bribery. They tried Mr.John on that charge, and he was found innocent on the grounds that there was absolutely NO evidence to support the charge against him. They then found him guilty of failing to REPORT to FIFA “discreditable conduct”(the speech by Jack Warner). Every single person charged with Bribery was found innocent. Yes, innocent; not “Not Guilty”. Then they found most of them guilty of this vague and imprecise ‘discreditable conduct’ nonsense. It was nothing but a vendetta against Warner and his supporters ably supported by some Caribbean wannabees. PJ is a great football leader.

What can a man who is banned by the International governing body of a sport do for the local governing body/players/sport. These guys need to get out of the sporting development in DA. The DOC and DAAA presidents as well. Power hungry, bribery accepting, being paid good dollars for votes sans development SOBs.

I really cannot understand why John would put forward such behavior. This is such a selfish move and is geared at seeing Dominica suspended by FIFA. Have ever wondered what will happen if Dominica is suspended? John is trying his best to see that happen, but it will not.

I understand a principle has to be upheld. But what is Mr. john fighting for? can’t he see his popularity with footballers have waned and no longer able to sure him in the position? The Dominica football fraternity must not fall asleep. they must stay awake.

One would have thought with age, Patrick John would have settled down and leave public life alone. It would appear that Patrick wants to be in the spotlight regardless. Those of us who have followed his life history over many years are aware of the many the controversies he has been involved in. For instance, as Secretary of Cumbummere Football Club and Dominica Armature Sports Association, as the Mayor of Roseau, the leadership of the Labor Party after the retirement of Mr. Leblanc, the firing of two Labor Party Government Ministers and his downfall as Prime Minister of Dominica.
