Forty-one candidates were all victorious in what is being described as a historical Under Black Belt Testing in Dominica organized by the Universal Martial Arts Academy International Robin Ryu Karate System.
The testing took place on October 19.
Under black belt testing means that all participating students were being assessed for yellow belt to brown belt rank.
“I have been teaching Martial Arts for over 20 years and yesterday under black belt testing was historical,” Shihan (meaning expert or senior instructor) Shannah Robin said. “I am proud of all the 41 students who showed up and did the work. They overcame the challenges and did not give up. As a result, they were all victorious.”
According to Shihan Robin after 5 long hard hours, the students were tested on their mental strength, their physical abilities and their willingness to achieve their goals.
“Every inch of courage showed its face from everyone.”
Shihan Robin believes that’s one of the hardest karate exams ever held in Dominica.
“The standard was second to none,” he stated. “They practice their integrity by not giving up no matter what was thrown at them.”
He gave accounts of the students determination, there was a 7-year-old little girl with food poisoning who refused to quit, while another student who received 19 stitches two days before due to a cut on his hand never gave up, “and still pull through.”
“A boy with a damaged knee who said I can do it and he did,” Robin revealed.
Robin further revealed that seven candidates are on target for their black belt, they are brown belts and did their exams exceptionally well. Their next belt testing would be the black belt exams sometime next year.“The attained the rank of brown belt first Q on target for their black belt,” Robin explained. “That means after brown belt first Q on target, that means their next exams would be black belt exams, so by next year March we will have an extra 7 people once they pass their exams attaining their black belts, both male and female in Dominica.”
Meantime, he indicated that exams was also held in his school located in Canada on October 5th, where 22 candidates sat the exams and they too were successful.
“Our Canadian exams were also a success over two weeks ago as well,” Robin revealed.
He thanked his Instructors Larry and Jodie for assisting.
Robin also thanked parents of the candidates for entrusting their children to his care.
CONGRATULATIONS Shihan Robin!! This is an example of constantly moving forward and upward. Great achievement by the students. I almost missed this article highlighting such wonderful positives at a time our youth need it most.
