The 2010 LIME National Basketball League season came to an official close on Saturday, October 16 with the enthusiasm that propelled the season to a dramatic basketball final.
The evening was used to award trophies and certificates to the deserving teams, players and volunteers.
The ceremony began with an all-star team playing Division 1 champions Gloria Shillingford Raptors, which was followed by another all-star team playing the Premier Division champions in a second game. The games were enjoyed by an appreciative crowd who stayed on to watch the prize-giving ceremony that took place immediately after the games.
Present to hand out the trophies was the representative of LIME, Ms Ferdina Frampton with President of the Basketball Association Mr. Dave Baron. After a welcome address by master of ceremony Mickey Joseph, the president gave a short address in which he thanked all the sponsors and persons who played a part in the 2010 basketball season.
The president also indicated that Dominica has been asked to host the 2011 Windward Island Basketball Tournament and update the basketball constitution to meet the anti-doping rules in sport (WADA).
Frampton also delivered a short address in which she complimented the association and promised continued assistance from LIME in helping the association to re-establish basketball as a premier sport in Dominica.
The following awards and trophies were handed out:
1. The Glam X-Men – Premier Division Champ’s(National Champions) also receiving a 1000 dollar cash prize.
2. Gloria Shillingford Raptors – Division 1 Champion – also receiving a 750 dollar cash prize.
3. The Glam X-Men – Ballarama Champion
4. The Glam X-Men – Regular Season Champion
5. Salisbury Juggernauts – Regular Season Champion
6. Garth Joseph – MVP Premier Division Playoff Finals
7. Steve Hypolite – MVB Division 1 Playoff Finals
8. Lynvor John – Top Scorer Premier Division
9. Dean Vidal – Top Scorer Division 1
10. Paix Bouche Eagles – 2nd Place Premier Division
11. Raffoul Snipers – 2nd Place Division 1
12. Appreciation Certificates were given out to the referees and Tito Aaron
The next activities for the DABA as indicated by the president are the 2011 basketball season, Windward Island Basketball Tournament, the basketball constitution and currently entertaining the idea of putting a women’s team to participate in a tournament in Antigua.
