Martinique is the new champion of the just-concluded Windward Island Women Football Tournament which was held at the Windsor Park Stadium.

Martinique was invited to participate in the tournament after St Lucia and Grenada pulled out for financial reasons.

They defeated Dominica 5-0 on Sunday.

Martinique and St Vincent & the Grenadines ended the tournament with four points, while Martinique captured the title on a better goal difference.

At the closing ceremony, Martinique walked away with three individual awards to include best defender, best midfielder and best striker.

St Vincent & the Grenadines got best goalkeeper and MVP of the tournament.

Dominica lost both matches played in the tournament.

Meantime Dominica bowed out of the CFU U-20 boys qualifiers when they lost their third straight match on Sunday 4-2 against St Kitts and Nevis.

Let’s hope we can take advantage by engaging in numerous friendly matches with our nearest neighbour. That is both the men and women teams

was there and it was obvious that the coach had a preference to certain players. was very disappointing. i think the coach should resign so many good players never even got a chance to touch the ball.
