Plans are in high gear for the staging of two One Day International matches in Dominica. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit told yesterday’s swearing-in ceremony that this will be one of the first assignments of the new sports minister.
Prime Minister Skerrit said the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry Tourism will do everything possible to ensure that Dominica becomes a test-playing cricket nation within the next five years.
“Cricket is our passion here in Dominica, as it is elsewhere in the region…I want to seek test cricket in Dominica and I want to see one day internationals between West Indies and other top playing nations around the world. And as a matter of fact, we shall host two one-day international matches between West Indies and South African in May 2010,” he said.
He said the Windsor Park Stadium is a sporting and cultural facility that is “second to none in the Caribbean.”
Paliamentary Representative for the Grand Bay constituency, Justina Charles, is the new minister responsible for sports.
