The Sports Division has taken the decision to suspend all members of the Portsmouth Secondary U-17 Football Team pending an investigation into their involvement in violent activities leveled at students of the Castle Bruce Secondary School following their U-17 Football match on November 21, 2011.
Following the match, which ended in 5:2 in favour of Castle Bruce Secondary School, players from the Portsmouth Secondary School U-17 team accompanied by other students of that school and a few members of the public, attacked the players of the Castle Bruce Secondary School players resulting in the physical abuse of some of the players of the Castle Bruce Secondary School and the sports teacher.
The Sports Division wishes to send a clear message that such deviant behaivour has no place in sports and will not be tolerated particularly at sporting events organised by the Division.
Therefore all members of the PSS U-17 football team along with the other students who were involved in the incident who belong to other football teams from the PSS have been suspended from football activities undertaken by the Division pending an investigation into the matter.
please get all you facts straight first right. the cbss boy that want to have everybody on the team up esp charlton. they already lost and you still want to slap up man on that? if he think he hurting one and getting away with it, he wrong. but next time the students should handle it better than that.
hurts my heart to hear any negative about pss.that’s where i went to school as one of the first batch of students in 1971 under the leadership of jones murphy as principal.
once again and i will repeat PSS needs prayers.. from since the time of the demon poseseed student. so? yalll taking my advice this time? or u guys gonna wait until something more tragic happens to give the skol a worst reputation than it already has! !! ummm… and i think when skols do well they ARE being recognized,,, sadly pss hasnt done anything so eye catching lately than just the demon kid and the violent recently.. so ppl.. pray is the answer.. you can call me christian if u want, but i think pss children need to be alittle more disciplined than this!
PSS always good in Sport. Dont know what happened but you should never attack ppl .even if you find the referee made mistakes or the game was hard or whatever. You must respect each other and should never resort to violence. Especially in a school setting so if the students misbehaved then they should be punished. And to even attack the sports teacher…this is just a lack of respect for authority.
Ebeh that is shame!! Possie that doing that!
Lets be honest here people no matter what age or gender portsmouth have a history of violent behavior when it comes to competitive sports, look at possie vs bathe estate and other incidents these people need to learn good sportsman and womanship and play in the spirit of love for the game.
PSS sorry to hear of that incident. All I will say is that is a taste of what the other rural secondary school in the south has to deal with when such incidents occur.Everyone including the media blast them and cry them down without having all the facts.HOLD STRONG PSS. THAT WILL PASS AND YOU WILL BE STRONGER. I am also sorry for the treatment meted out to the Castle Bruce students. young people we are all Dominicans .Let us work together as one.
Can someone give a quick senario of how the fight started?
There is no reason for violence in Sports.
SOMEBODY GOT VEX
jus cus we defeated dem 5-2 we, after the game end #10 for possy comin on my player an want to have dr self we, but margority of the people who were not playin jus come an fight against we.
we could not do anything dan jus run in de bus eh.
to the refree I say watch your back because it might be you they attack next, all ways be fair
its just a game , and the refree is only human . don’t tolarate, nor condon such action by sportsmen or women . do whats right .
ALL OF ALL YOU CAN DO IS JUST SIT DOWN AND TALK NONSENSE…..NONE OF ALL YOU WASNT THERE TO SEE WHAT HAPPEN…NONE I LOVE FOOTBALL AND I LOVE IT WITH A CHALLENGE BUT WHEN I SEE WE WAS WAS NOT MUCH ON THE WAY OF WINNING WE HAD TO START PLAYING HARDER….AND THERE IS WHERE IT START TO HAPPEN….WE WAS JUST PLAYING TOO HARD AND IT WAS GOOD BUT NOT MUCH TO THEM BECAUSE CUZ THEY SUCK….BUT IS WE THAT CUZ THE FIGHT TO START…
Are you a student? Focus a bit more on the English.
hush your mouth you are not making sense
no comments
stop being bias, when young people do positive things, they are not recognized at all times, give them the credits whenthey do good
pss have no discipline and it serve them well
P.S.S you all should have just accepted your loss****
But what is this at all?!?…What a shame P.S.S!…You all should have just accepted your defeat. Anyways, game well played CBSS, proud of you my former students and wonderful Coaching Stan!
Witout PSS in any Sports Events their is No competition on the island. We should look at what stem the problem for the brawl to occur, maybe poor refering descisions? just saying.
thats so true!! PSS have the Highest and most Consistent level on the island!!
no violents in sports, that is the point that the sports division is making, zero tolerance, what they have accomplished is monumental, that is a fact, but rules are rules,so doh feel noway.
so why other people must take the blame for these students behaviour. you blame parents you blame society. you should blame yourselves cause when we tke the control from these individuals they never learn to take responsibilities for themselves. outside influence is important, yes but at the end of the day, the final decision rest with the individual.
now about barning pss from all sports meet. utter nonsence commonsense must prevail. then again who sys commonsense is really common?
anyway shame on those who jumped to conclusion and started blasting the pss team. there are two sides to the story. dno should learn good reporting and do good investigation before just present bef. biasness. interview ppl. get feedback from the coach the principl. the story is to bias and missing out too many critical aspects.
and here we are using this opportunity to talk down on pss and the north. these behaviour are everywhere in dominica lets not look for scape goats and targets. pss has been known for a number of great things. i do hope that these very critical commentators like our great football alumini jump in to praise the good works at pss and become part of the solution and not a sign ligner.
there may be 2 sides to a story, but nothing warrants an attack on another team. Pss has always been strong at sports, but no matter what, one has to remember the rules, and let the proper course of action take place, if they were attacked first, then they should have taken it up with the authorities, and not attack the other team. In the end, they have no excuse for their attack on another team and therefore all talk down they receive is warranted.
In reply to Zap….Since DNO is repoting one sided, please give us the other side. Whatever other side there is, there should be no tollerance for such behavior in sports. Rest assure this is not a bashing of PSS, we all praise the good things that PSS have done. We are indeed following in the footsteps of our fathers, mothers, uncles, brothers, sisters, etc…We all are PSS. We have an obligation to let these young men know what they did was wrong no matter the circumstances so that it will not be repeated.
this is exactly the type of attitude that cultivates this type of behaviour so are u saying that chanderpaul should lash tendulkar when the match over and india win and he thinks that the decision against his was flawed? the true test of a champion is losing gracefully. i think that these students were filled with themselves and to make matters worse they lost infront of the home fans so instead of taking the blame for their loss they chose to make it about the other team and imagined wrongs against them there was no provocation on the part of castle bruce. incidentally practically all of p.s.s games are at home probably if they had to visit other communities they would show some humility and realize what it is to be attacked far far away from home.
not all sporting events but football ; be sure at what u get mad over . they have been good and consistant but now is their chance to loose as they did . just fight harder to win next time not with each other
who cares
if under 17 vex when they lost image when they get older
really and truly tantrum and throwing a fit,is a youth full thing, this a natural habit in someone when young, but as you grow older, one gets wiser, you begin to see things differently, before you do anything stupid you does think, knowing the consequences of what your actions will bring,a criminally minded person does do things wickedly.
pss need to learn to accept defeat need better sportsmanship
Make them do community service and that should include taking care of the neglected young man that eats his own waste.
As a PSS Alumini, and member of the 1996 Under 17 Nation Championship Team, I must say that this behavor should not be tollerated and I commend the Sports Division for taking such actions. Upon further investigation, the perpetrators of the brawl should be disciplined and thought a serious lesson that we as a society will not condone such outrageous behavior in sports.
Parents and the elders in our society need to develop a mentorship program for these youngsters and I will be the first one to volunteer to be a mentor to a few of these young men.
Seriously what is becoming of our society and my beloved Portsmouth Secondary School…Common PSS students: Forward on, Forward on and an appeal to Possie, let us love ourselves and each other…and ask yourselves; I’m I my Brother’s Keeper”.
One Love Dominicans
Correction….1986 National Championship
Team not 1996.
You know, I can not recall bench-clearing brawls in our youth, when we played organized sports. This phenomenon among today’s youth is so heartbreaking.
I stand firmly behind the decision by the Division to eradicate hooliganism in the sporting arena of football. I beg the authoties to swiftly conduct their investigations. And recommend further that the perpetrators receive the stifest penalties for the behavior.
that is the new level now in the north
Shameeeeeee
Alass PSS lads. All you ought to behave better than that.
These children are just ill-mannered and it is the fault of the parents and the system! Fault of the parents because some parents are worse than the children. The system because it has nothing in place to help parents raise children.
monsters and vicious gorillas we have created in this country.Where are the parents we have allowed too many misbehaviours to go unpunished and students role models nowadays are gangsters and marijuana smokers.
CB MASSIVE!!!! Castle Bruce is KING!!
cb til death
Children just too violent nowadays. And the thing is they are not afraid of their parents, have no respect for teachers and could care less about other people. I don’t know how our society is going to deal with these issues. I mean….how can these young persons be so fearless…especially when they have no fear of God. Every body cursing each other… even if adults are present and threatening each other. I mean I am appalled sometimes at the things that I hear and see our young persons do.. and I am not in my 30’s as yet. We need a revolution…just dont know in what form and how. Been in the Portsmouth area couple of times and I must say…I was quite concerned with what I saw especially around the savannah area. YOung persons with no manners and doing drugs openly; disrespecting young women and calling other boys some rude names.
I know it might be a reflection of other villages/communities but it might be a good thing for the leaders of Portsmouth try to interven in some way. The police probably need to do some more work there in terms of fighting drugs use especailly as it relates to the teenage boys. Just Saying.
thts not fair
there must be a reason y pss U-17 attacked
I have played sports at the highest level there is to play, and there is never a reason to fight with someone on that field of sports.
there is there is no way u can leave castle bruce and come porthsmuth in portsmouth park and fight with a player……how u can do that and not expect them to reactt. all that nonsense about accept defeat is unnecessary they are used to losing it is all part of playing and all the bias roseau people allu need to shut up cuz allu cyah face the fact most of the best players come from freaking PSS!!!!
i can see that you are a fool…… vitil and jackay that is your teachers?
i would band the school from all sports
That all wish. Keep on dreaming. Haterzzzzz
Not the right approach and a bit extreme if you ask me. How would you justisfy banning a netball, cricket, volleyball team etc, for the knucklehead behavior of the under 17 Football team. The Sports Division has so far made the right move.
Are you that daft as to level punishment against an entire school for the bahaviour of not just a team but a community? What of the other sport teams who had nothing to do with what happened like the netball, athletics….Praise the good Lord you have no authority in situations like this cause your personal vengence will cause you to make rash stupid decisions.
I think they meant lack of sportsmanship! LoL
i agree but my son stop play sport for school
and????
This behaviour is definitely unacceptable. I support the action of the Division. By the way well done CBS!!!
They should be suspended from school as well. This is criminal behaviour and they must be taught a tough lesson.
THIS IS FOOLISH AND ABUSING.THE U-17 FOOTBALL TEAM SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS….THEY SHOUULD BE PUNISHED FOR I AM A TEACHER AT THE ITSS…… :-x….HMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and they say lack of sports is a cause of violence amongst youth. i never subscribed to that theory, look at the last sports meet where there was violence now at a football match…
sour losers, that’s the notion am getting here.
