Primary Schools Cricket Championship bowls off

The Sports Division’s organized 2011 Quenchi Soft Drinks Primary Schools Cricket Championship will bowl off on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Poree Playing Field in Pointe Michel.

The Josephine Gabriel-sponsored championship is an annual feature on the Sports Division’s Calendar of Activities and is a limited overs cricket competition suited for the boys of the Primary Schools.

The schools around the island have been grouped together in eight districts and are expected to compete against each other at various venues around the island to include Grand Bay, Delices, Jolly John Park, Benjamin’s Park and Dublanc.

This year, the opening ceremony will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, June 10:00am with remarks are expected to come from Mr. Trevor Shillingford – Sports Coordinator, Mr. Gustave Williams – Chairman of the Pointe Michel Village Council, Mr. Gerald George – representative of Josephine Gabriel & Company Ltd, Hon. Sam Martin – Parliamentary Representative of the Soufriere Constituency and the  Hon. Justina Charles – Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports.

Following the ceremony, the West Central team will come up against the South West Team in the 1st match of the Championship.

Last year, South West and the West Central Districts were joint champions.
