On Saturday 24th, in game 1, the Laudat Spartans defeated the Bath Estate Huskies by a final score of 99-83 pts.
The Spartans have now won 3 games in a row, since the addition of twin brothers, Jamal & Jervon Serrant, after losing both of thier opening games. In these 3 games, they have never lead for every second of the 12 quarters played. The twin brothers again controlled the entire game at their own pace, scoring the majority of the points, and getting great offensive & defensive help from all star player, Shaun Reid. They look really strong going into their final 3 games, and into their play-offs. Teams need to step up their games, or we may be looking at blow outs, in games to come.
The Huskies are on a up & down trail, and are now 3-3 after the 16 point loss to the spartans. They consist of exciting players such as Ivan “Bakery” Jno. Baptiste, Davidson “Ginny” Toulon, Joseph “Jo-Jo” Hypolite & Bedno Soanes, but they have not all been able to put it together, to get vitals wins, which they desperately ned. Let’s hope they can, in the final 2 games, against the Upper Village Hoosiers, who are at the top of the group, and against the Fond-Canie Upsetters.
Top performers for spartans – Jervon Serrant – 38 pts, 8 asts, 7 reb
– Jamal Serrant – 20 pts, 6 asts, 5 reb
– Shaun Reid – 16 pts, 10 reb, 2 blks
Top performers for huskies – Davidson “Ginny” Toulon – 30 pts, 6 asts, 4 stls
– Marcel Nicholas – 15 pts, 4 reb
– Ivan “Bakery” Jno. Baptiste – 13 pts, 2 reb, 3 asts

In game 2, the Elvis Welding Road Stars defeated the Fond Canie Rebels by a final score of 75-70 pts.
The Road Stars continue to put on a strong team performance and have now won 5 and lost only 1, heading into the final two games before the play-offs. They are lead by Javeed Joseph, Julian Isles, Fitzgerald Daniel, Thomas Felix, Patrick Lafonce, and veteran Simon “To-To” Joseph.
The Rebels posess a very strong team, with the likes of Joel Mc’ Intyre, Ronald Bruno, Peter Ricketts, and Shane Guiste leading from the front. The wins have dried up a bit, with this loss making it 2 in a row, and they are now 3-2 with 3 games remaining.
The rebels were well on course for a win, after being down for most of game, but put on a strong performance in the end, only to be victim of some crucial refereeing decisions that went against them, which may have broke the confidence of their key players, and lead to their down fall.
Top performers for Road Stars – Thomas Felix – 23 pts, 4 reb, 4 asts
– Javeed Joseph – 12 pts, 6 reb
– Fitzgerald Daniel – 11 pts, 6 asts
Top performers for Rebels – Shane Guiste – 22 pts, 6 asts
– Peter Ricketts – 19 pts, 5 reb
– Ronald Bruno – 11 pts, 7 reb
On Sunday, 25th, in game 1, the Lily Valley Sharks defeated the Morne Prosper Long Hornn by a final score of 79-59 pts.
For the first time, in a long time, a competitive game was played on the Morne Prosper Basketball court. You could see that this was a great setting, with great community spirit, as villagers turned out in extremely large numbers to support their long horns. But with all the local crowd support the long horns still did not deliver what the crowd expected. The 20 point blow out was largerly down to key players, Jenner “Stunna” Deschamps and Lyndel Mayers being out injured with ankle injuries suffered at their last game. This largely crippled the long horns. They are now 3-3 with two games left to be played.
Shout out to Road Stars keep up the good work. I will come out and support all the way.

It is great to see the Roseau Valley league is still going on strong and the young and older players are still keeping up the tradition. It is great to see Toots “To To” Joseph is still in the game and long time players like Elvis from Elvis Welding have moved from players to sponsors. We hope that basketball can be used to bring back some of the division the community has suffered over the time, especially in Trafalgar which became somewhat divided based on the different teams, to some degree, among the young men. But the importance of the athletics to help teach discipline, collaboration, and leadership cannot be understated especially in these times when so many of our young persons are seeking, and need, guidance and leadership. The Valley should continue to take the games seriously and keep using it to boost our communities. It is great to see Laudat doing so well, and Morn Pros having its first competitive game in a while. Keep the game clean, keep it professional, and let’s keep building this long standing league to boost the game on a national and regional level. Nice article too, DNO.
the league is a good league but the refering is terrible. takes all the flavour from the game.
Yea, we’re working on it. We’re working on it. Little patience.
DNO, thank you so much for your active reporting on our league. This is adding fuel and energy to the burning desire to be the best we can be in the Roseau Valley. How long you ask? I say not long, the entire Dominica team will soon be comprised of players from Morne Prosper, TR, Laudat, Wotten Waven and Bath Estate. Who knows!we have NBA stars in the making. Thank you for supporting our guys
The Referees need to watch the NBA also. The referees are terrible. take all the taste off the game.
