ROSEAU, Dominica, May 5, CMC – Dominica Cricket Association vice-president, Lockhart Sebastien, believes the death of Kaleb Laurent will leave a void in the country’s cricket landscape.
Sebastien was speaking following the death of the former Dominica and Combined Islands cricketer, who passed away recently at age 65.
“There is no doubt in my mind that he will be missed by the Dominican cricketing fraternity,” said Sebastien, a former Windward Islands batsman.
“The void that his death has left will be difficult to replace. He was so much of a nice individual and gave his all in whatever he did. His commitment to Dominica’s cricket in unquestionable.
“He was always around giving advice and assisting whenever possible. He served as senior national team coach and selector for a number of years, and was only replaced as a selector this year at his request. I can say for certain that he will surely be missed,” Sebastien added.
The current Windwards senior team manager, Sebastien said Laurent possessed immense knowledge and was always willing to help those around him.
“We played for Dominica, and the Windward and Combined Islands together and I can say without any doubt that he was a very knowledgeable cricketer and one who was always willing to assist others,” Sebastien noted.
“In addition to being a knowledgeable cricketer, he was a very fine cricketer as well. Unfortunately, he did not get that opportunity to represent the West Indies team in the 70s.”
Laurent, who made 16 first class appearances, enjoyed several stints as national senior team coach and selector.
Only this year, government took the decision to name one of the stands at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium after Laurent.

Laurent will truly be missed! I really believe that Dominica should create a Sports Hall of Fame so the the next generation will know the names of our pioneering Sports Men and Women in Dominica.
I’m with u on dat righteous. B4 the advent of video technology in DA, Dominica produced some wicked sportsmen and women with mad skillz, some even had a rep across de Caribbean in their hey day. Unfortunately, most of the present day generation have no idea who these folks are.
