ROSEAU, Dominica, Apr 22, CMC – West Indies A team off-spinner, Shane Shillingford has been named as the country’s 2009 Sportsman-of-the-Year.
Shillingford, who is currently on duty with the West Indies A team in Grenada, copped the award on Wednesday evening at the Ministry of Sports Awards ceremony.

“I must say that I am very pleased with this award here this evening. It is really a good feeling to have once again received the award. It means that all my hard work has not gone unnoticed,” she said.
“It is my intention to go from strength to strength and to continue to make my school and my country proud whenever the opportunities present themselves,” the North Eastern Comprehensive School student added.

Congrats Shane! it’s a well deserved title; keep up the good work.
I know I will get endless licks for this by people that don’t understand what I’m saying. Cograts to Mr. Shillingford but I am appealing to those responsible for WI cricket to get some help for him to remedy his action. I am of the opinion that should he get the chance to represent the WI at the highest level he will be reported by the umpires & face the possibility of a ban while remedial action is taken similar to what happened to the Jamaican Lawson a few years back.
Such a ban will only affect Shillingford’s confidence & affect his play should he return to the WI team. Therefore it is better to get any problems there maybe ironed out now & not wait until he is picked for the WI.
Is it his ego?
