Dominican born, overseas based athlete Dillon Simon will participate in the upcoming Pan American Games being held in Lima, Peru. He will represent Dominica alongside Thea Lafond at the games scheduled to begin on July 26th.
Simon, a shot-putter, was coached by former national athlete Curtley Bynoe who passed away in February of this year.
In an interview with DBS Radio, when asked what his biggest challenge was, Simon responded that it was balancing the training program.
“ He [Bynoe] was in charge of my program,” Simon revealed.
He said he is trying his best to maximize the benefits of the program which was geared specifically toward his training for the games.
However, he revealed that training has been “going good”. He added that he has been training in weightlifting and technical throwing and that his body is responding well to the training.
Simon made it to the finals of the commonwealth games and says that his strategy is to simply go in and try to do better.
He will compete alongside Thea Lafond, a Domincan-born, triple jumper who has competed in the Summer Olympics and Commonwealth games. During an interview with DBS Radio, she revealed that she just had her best season yet and is “geared up and ready to go.”
Lafond is going into the PanAm games with the mindset to win, hopes of earning a medal, landing far jumps, having a dominant and healthy series and to enjoy herself.
DNO wishes the best of luck to the Dominican representatives.
Go Dominica .. we are proud of you
Cool
Praying for sponsors and trainers and mentors and everyone that is naturally gifted and those who are willing to work to WIN
Absolute talent!!! Considering the state of Dominica’s sporting infrastructure you are simply talented. Elections are around the corner. Last elections the labor party spent over twenty-one million to be re-elected. Surely that could have but us a sporting stadium from scratch. Sadly, those are not a priority for the labor party. However they are truly fools. Had they don’t that they would not be globe trotting seeking to beg votes. They would have been comfortably ahead because of the work. I hope that a brand new sporting stadium specifically for track and field will be a priority for the labor party. Until then, young man and young woman, you thrive on your talent.
