The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, through the Sports Division, continues with its drive to have better organized and formal structure for community sports.
In this regard, a meeting will be held at the Soufriere Village Council’s office in regards to the elections of officers to the Soufriere Sports Committee on Wednesday, January 26, 2010 from 7 pm.
The Sports Divisions invites all villagers to the meeting, especially those who are part of the steering committee, those who are interested in sports development and those are willing to commit themselves to the running of a sports body in the village.
Well, lets see what we can do cause change. We depend too much on other people especially politicians. The change has to come from us. .. politician cannot come and run our sports in our communities. It is us that have to play and get together. So let’s take up the challenge and do something positive. Then the court will no longer be a place to break bottles or to smoke weed… it will be utilized for good things.
When the institutions ask us to come out… then we need to. They can only do so much. Let’s get our youths into good and positive things….. I look forward to a Sports Committee in Soufriere.
There was a timewhen the basket ball court was proposed to be moved to Brooklyn and have one playing area, more space, a more organized sporting development. But the then politicians preferred to play politics.
Now the basketball court is a garbage dump, a place to break bottles, a toilet, a cursing area for small children and teenagers, a weed smoking hideout, all in all an eyesore. Gone are the days when people like Weefy Jules had basketball organized and the NID Cowboys were a force to be reckoned with in the leagues.
A few guys still take a sweat there on the one hoop court.
With all the so called development, there are so many backward steps.
so long soufirer have basketball court and a football field…one is a wasteland and the other is like jirassic park IV respectively….now dey sseein to do something in d village…but hopefully something good will come from it…
