Roseau, Dominica (October 12, 2016): The South District showed everyone who was boss when the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) U-19 cricket tournament culminated on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Botanical Gardens. Coming up against the South West District, the South team won comfortably, by 53 runs.
Batting first, the South team was 119 all out, with Akan Edwards scoring 33 and Alick Athanze adding 15 runs. Jervon Memain was able to capture 4 wickets in just 3 overs while Malakai Xavier bowled 7 overs, taking four wickets in the process.
The South West District team crumbled one after the other and was all out for 66 runs with their top scorers unable to reach double digits.
Captain of the South team said, “It’s nice because it is the first time we’ve won. It’s been five years since I’ve been participating in this tournament and one year as Captain so it really feels good to captain the winning side. We came close to winning many times but it didn’t happen until now. The team comprises mainly young, developing cricketers so it was good to see the level of cricket that we played and it made the win even better.”
