Table Tennis Festival a success

The Dominica Table Tennis Association, through assistance from Dominica Olympic Committee conducted a successful Table Tennis Festival from Thursday 10 – 20 at the St Gerard’s Hall.

64 participants registered in the U-16, U-20, U-40 and U-60 activities that were held on Thursday and Friday. After the preliminary knock out rounds, in the U-16 final Akeva Leblanc won Jaheel Lewis 9 – 11, 11 – 9, 11 -7;

In the Under 20, David Joseph won Andy Pollock 11 – 2, 13 – 11

In the Under 40, Dane Taylor won Devon Prince 9 – 11, 12 – 10, 11 – 7

In the Under 60, Clifton Lewis won Urban Irish 11 – 8, 11 – 9

In an exhibition match between former national champion and president of the Dominica Table Tennis Association Brian Matthew and Dane Taylor the Under 40 winner and the current Secondary Schools Champion, Taylor won 5 – 11, 11 – 9, 11 – 9.

On Saturday in the Under 12 category, eighteen players registered, and it must be highlighted that there is a huge amount of talent waiting to be further discovered and harnessed.

In the first semi final Leon Durand won Lesroy King 11 – 1, 11 – 2, 11 – 6  Leic Charles won Alliyah Prince 11 – 6, 12- 10, 11 – 5.

In the final, Leon Durand, the 2011 Primary Schools Table Tennis Champion from the Wills Strathmore Stevens School, won Leic Charles 11 – 6, 14 – 12, 11 – 6.

The Association expresses sincerest thanks to the Dominica Olympic Committee and specifically Mr. Dario Frank and Mrs. Cynthia Joseph for facilitating the mobilization of the majority of the participants.
