At the Dominica Amateur Athletics Association (DAAA) Carifta Trial Meet held at the Benjamin Park in Portsmouth on Sunday 23rd March, three new athletes qualified for the Carifta Games to be held from the 17th – 21st April 2014 in Martinique
They are;
• Juda Corriette of the Aithons Athletics Club who ran a time of 2 minutes, 3 seconds to qualified in the 800m under 18 boys
• Kihmo Benjamin of the N.E.C.S qualified in the both the Discus and the Shot Put in the under 18 boys, with distances of 40.30m and 14.35m respectfully.
• Derrick St. Jean qualified in the under 20 boys 400m with a time of 49.4 seconds.
Meanwhile Shacin Stedman and Bret Evans of the O.A.C met the qualifying standard bringing the numbers in the under 18 boys 100m to 4, pushing the DAAA to look at the possibility of the 4x100m relay under 18 boys at the games.
Other athletes meeting standards of other events for the day were;
• Kellandie Bully of Pioneers, in the 800m under 18 girls she has already qualified in the 400m.
• Raheem Joseph of the N.E.C.S in the Under 18 boys Shot
Not too happy moments for Josh Toussaint of Aspirers and Martthan Jude of the Aithons who both threw past the qualifying mark of the Shot Put but had to stay out since only two qualified athletes can go to that event.
Chelsey Linton Carifta Veteran of the Wesmar Rangers was grant automatic entry due to the combine event which was not catered for at the meetings. This brings the total number of athletes selected to 19. They are:
