Windsor Park Stadium is to host the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in two Twenty20 matches versus the Windward Islands on September 6 and 7.

This is expected to be a keenly contested series coming on the heels of the first ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the region’s first ever twenty20 franchise league.

The Twenty20 matches in Dominica will be used by the Red Force in preparation for their participation in this year’s Champions’ League in India.

Trinidad & Tobago has been the region’s top T20 team over the past several years and made it to the finals of the Champions League in its first edition in 2009.

This will be the last time a territorial team will represent the Caribbean at the Champions’ League. Next year’s representative will be the winner of this year’s CPL.

Speaking of the games, West Indies Cricket Board Vice President and Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) President, Emmanuel Nanthan underscored the need for Dominica to host such matches, stating that the island has now become one of the region’s most passionate and cricket-mad nations and the DCA will do everything possible to host major matches here.

“Our people just love their cricket and they love to see our West Indies players play the game we love,” he said.  “For us at the DCA, hosting the Red Force will be the second biggest cricketing event of the year, following on the hosting of the West Indies and Zimbabwe in a test match earlier in the year. We are expecting massive crowds for these two T20 matches and look forward to giving the fans a fantastic week-end of cricketing entertainment.”

The Red Force is expected to field some of the top T20 players in the region including Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Rayad Emrit, Denish Ramdin, Samuel Badree and possibly Kevon Cooper and Sunil Narine, whose IPL teams are out of the Champions League.

Meanwhile Windwards will have in their ranks West Indies Test and T20 Captain Darren Sammy, Liam Sebastien and top performer in this year’s CPL, Andre Fletcher along with West Indies stars Johnson Charles and Shane Shillingford.

The main sponsors for the games include Digicel, Dominica Brewery & Beverages, Domlec, Petro Caribe, Discover Dominica Authority, Orchard Restaurant and AID Bank.

The matches will start at 5:00 pm on Friday 6th September and 7:00 pm on Saturday 7 and fans can purchase their tickets in advance at the Office of the DCA at the Windsor Park Stadium.

Trinidad’s team was called the Red Force for the territorial competition last year. Only Trinidadians made up that team. They won last year and will be the guest team in India. ThE Red Steel, this year’ team was sponsored by ‘Arcellor Mital’ (a well-known local steel company).Let us make a good showing at the park. we might get to see some CPL matches next year !

Are you an idiot? The CPL teams are privately owned. Why would they play in DA unless DA paid for them to come? If DA got a team in the CPL then we would have games

Everything is politics for you all??????? Politics will destroy you all. This is cricket that is spoken about. I am sure that you are not thinking of the Mighty Creator as much as you thinking of Politics. If you did, you would understand your role as a citizen and not be brain filled with politics. Saturated with politics.
