Three under 17 footballers have been selected by a group of coaches from Chelsea football club in the UK, to participate in a one week football programme in Barbados in October.
They are: Delroy Parker, Giles Mitchel and Andrez Joseph.
Over 25 boys went through a number of football drills at the Geneva playing field on Saturday in Grandbay to display their talent to the coaches.
The Digicel Kick Start Clinic held on the weekend, was to help young players- boys and girls, to obtain some form of professional training to help in their development.
The coaches also held sessions with a number of coaches and teachers who work with young students around Dominica.
Chelsea International Technical Support Officer, Steven Winnett, said coaches who work with young players are very important because, according to him, these players are at the development stage and need to be trained properly.
Digicel sales and marking manager Nathalie Walsh, said her company was happy to partner with the Chelsea football club for the weekend and expressed the hope that one of these young players will make Dominica proud in Barbados,
Coordinator of the Digicel Newtown football academy Don Leogal coordinated the activities for the weekend.
The coaches leave Dominica on Monday.
You forgot the other boy Quamie Belle
Congrats to those selected especially Andrez Joseph.. We look forward to seeing you guys going far in your football career.. To all the ooaches make the best of the training received… You go Vaughn
Congrats Don. Just for the love of football you continue to soldier on without remuneration, recognition or reward. Rather, you more than often come up against ridicule and recrimination. Your contribution to football development in Dominica to my mind is much greater than those fight to stay on at whatever cost just to benefit from FIFA’s largesse and other percuniary benefits and travel perks. Your dayin the sun will soon come my friend
Cldnt hve said it better….Congrats to Don and the Management of the Digicel Newtown Juvenile Football Academy…continue doing what you are doing…its starting to bear fruit!
Boys, grab this opportunity with both hands, it would benefit your career if you could ultimately get into the Chelsea academy, it is one of the best in the Uk.
Well done boys, go for it, make an impression. Chelsea star one day ? Who knows ?
This is a great opportunity for the young players in Dominica & the Carribbean as a whole. We are being left behind by our African brothers in our developement in the sport, and FIFA have not made it any easier for Carribean nations to qualify. Boys, work hard to be one of the chosen 3, it will be tough, competition fierce, but the prize can be great not only for you as an individual but the island as a whole.
We are the ones to make the effort to get there. Improve our standards. Play the scientific way.
