ROSEAU, Dominica, Aug 7, CMC – Only four players from last year’s outfit have been retained in a relatively new Dominica squad selected for the St. Kitts Invitational Under-13 tournament scheduled to bowl off later this month.
The 16-member unit, which was announced earlier this week, will be led by national Under 15 all-rounder Kyle Cabey, who is one of the four players that participated in last year’s tournament.
Other surviving players from last year’s unit include Kershaski Jno Lewis, Christ of Telemacque and Joshua Henderson.
Despite the inexperience, coach Thomas Kentish said he believed the squad could give a good account of itself.
“Basically, I can say that we have a new team going to St. Kitts. However, there is a lot of potential within the unit,” said the former Windward Islands off-spinner.
“We have always done well in St. Kitts and people are expecting us to do well based on our reputation in that tournament. So I have every reason that we will do well.
“If the boys follow the game plan and put what they have learnt onto play, then we are in for another good run.”
Kentish further said he expected the players with the experience to carry the bulk of the responsibility for performances.
“In the team, we have two players who are on the national Under-15 team in the persons of Kyle Cabey and Kershaski Jno Lewis,” he pointed out.
“They are all-rounders and they will be expected to lead from the front. Since they are not new to this tournament, we are hoping that they will guide the others. We have a balanced tea with many promising players and everybody is expected to play his part.”
SQUAD – Brian Joseph, Niacian Frederick, Josiah Hilton, Kyle Cabey, Raheem Prosper, Kershaski Jno Lewis, Cassim Peltier, Leic Charles, Joshua Henderson, Michael Pinard, Renwick Larocque, Josh Toussaint, Gamaliel Ophar, Nian Auguiste, Christoff Telemacque, Dion Burton.
