UWP outlines projects for Roseau Central

The United Workers Party (UWP) Team Dominica has pledged to keep its promise to develop sports in the city of Roseau.

The party outlined a number of plans that are already in place to benefit the young people of the city.

Part of their plans includes the renovation of the Basketball Court on Bath Road, Roseau, which will include an upgraded washroom facility.

UWP Candidate for the Roseau Central Constituency, Joseph Isaac, who was addressing a public meeting held at the basketball court on Bath Road earlier this week, said he intends to continue that quest in assisting the young people of Roseau in the area of sports.

“I want to get involved in helping young people. We will renovate the basketball court and we will ensure that the washroom facility is completed and upgraded,” he said. “We will convert it like a sports club upstairs. We will establish in the High Street area where we will have a small swimming pool where people involved in Olympics can practice to swim.”

He went on to say that the party will develop an indoor sporting facility close to the Windsor Park Stadium.

“This was the original plan and we are committed to deliver that to you the people of Roseau,” he promised.

He added, “We will ensure that you have in Roseau, a practice football field next to the stadium, we will introduce a sporting system which will incorporate the club structure across Roseau and across Dominica.”

Isaac also took a swipe at the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) for “taking advantage of the people.”

“Can you understand the challenge we are faced with in this country?” he noted. “It is a challenge where our leaders, in the name of the Dominica Labour Party, are taking advantage of the people, taking advantage of the people with resources, taking advantage of people by blocking every project that we try to do. They are doing wrong things and we have to stand up against those things.”

Meanwhile, outgoing Parliamentary representative for Roseau Central, Norris Prevost, revealed that the party presented a project to government several years for resurfacing the basketball court and to repair and upgrade the toilet. However, he said, the proposal fell on deaf ears.

“The government refuse because the then mayor of Roseau was the Deputy Chairman of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), who refused to collaborate with the Roseau Improvement Committee (RIC) to get the toilet upgraded and the basketball court upgraded,” he said. “That is the kind of damage that the Labour Party have done to us.”

Prevost added, “People of Roseau, what you are seeing is the destruction of the RIC Basketball Court is just one out of the many facilities that have been destroyed in Roseau.”

According to him, the UWP is committed to empower young people in sports and to make sports that tool that it can be, “to build our communities, to build our young people…to give our young people the ability to excel.”

He urged people of Roseau lend a hand to help restore sports for young people on the island.

The targeted audience were bathroad and nearby residence, therefore he outlined what he has planned for that specific area and was not tailored for the entire Roseau central. Moreover, the opposition have conveyed many auspicious-sustainable and innovative plans for the entire Roseau.

I’ve read so many criticisms of the “Dominica Latrine party” from fellow UWP politicians, but I never imagined that an “upgraded” toilet would be the center-piece of UWP’s grand vision for the development of Roseau and its young residents. One party builds new facilities while the other criticizes and promises to upgrade if elected into government. One party says “latrines” ,while the grand visionaries for change say “toilets”. Change we can believe in, indeed.

But wait a minute; the promise of “toilets for all” became popular on the international scene when the PM of the world’s most populous democracy made that promise to his fellow countrymen at the World Citizen Festival in New York last weekend. After all, it may pay to play “toilet” politics.

What Dominica needs: fishermen! You’ve heard the saying about teaching a man to fish, eh? We need innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs and builders! Folks who can make Dominica produce!
From what I’m seeing, UWP does not seem to have a real plan on what it takes to move Dominica beyond entitlements and beggardom. It’s the same stuff DLP is doing now, but UWP wants them out so UWP can do it… their style. As the Opposition, they have out-opposed themselves. Instead of throwing mepwee, I want to hear of SOLID and sustainable plans for Dominica’s development.
Roseau needs to be revamped! Period! A “small swimming pool where people involved in Olympics can practice to swim”??? Really? And this is the kind of vision we want to vote for? Upgraded toilets? That’s development people should vote for? Mercy!! Why not focus on building industry, and creating employment opportunities for these idle people?
Where is the plan to have Dominica export US$500 million a year, instead of the now US$80million?
Even with all it’s glitzy developments, DLP has taken Dominica down the wrong road in beggardom… and I fear UWP may not fare any better!

UWP is like those KouKouMayork birds in stockfarm dat is part of Parro economics in Roseau… de birds eat all the garbage in labass them fly back to Stockfarm to popo on your car then you have to drive to Roseau and pay Parro $4 to wash your car… den the Parry using your $4 to buy drugs making the drugman rich, den the police arresting the drug man, confiscating his property, den UWP will use the $$$ from that property to fund their plans, promises, intentions and maybes…that is how dey (UWP) keep the DA economy going Parro economics!.

For all who are asking where the monies to build the pool coming from, here is an answere/idea for the UWP:

5 shipments of sand from layou

and another 10 shipments to take out the st Joseph constituency from the welfare list

Mr. Prevost and Isaac. Since the basketball court means so much to you guys, why not renovate it as your contribution to sports in Roseau. Seek funding and do something about it.

Start doing things as an opposition instead of saying how bad it is and what you will do when you get in power. Start showing your worth now.

So you don’t believe that Dominica could contribute to the Commonwealth Pam Games in swimming as long as the young men/women are properly trained , Next year the Pam Games will be held in Canada and not even an individual coming to represent D’ica how does that make you feel, so you see when you place comments think first because I would like my Island be part of the games regardless if we win or not.
Issac is thinking about the next Commonwealth Pam Games.so open your mind and see how the change will benefit out young people.

We have a problem understanding how to use space in Dominica. We think everything must be at ground level. We cannot see that a pool could be at one level and a court at the next level, a fitness club at the next and something else at the next level and so on. This is so in many other countries. In the US trains travel way above the heads of people walking underneath, major roads are built one over the other. A sports complex cannot in a small Roseau be built on one level. Last election the DLP told us so much about the next level but this has gone silent now.

What marvels me, is why of all places in Roseau, this meeting was held between two cemeteries. Secondly I observe the concentration was sports, does that mean the people of Roseau are very blessed in everything else?
Why does Mr Issac have to be a parl rep to ” WANT TO GET INVOLVED” in helping the people of Roseau. Mr. Issac, you can help the people of Roseau if only this is truly what you desire to do. You want to help them, what prevents you from helping, go ahead and do what is right, what is necessary. Don’t ask them to vote you into government because you want to help them. It clearly means sir, you have no intention to, and if you are not elected, then you definitely wont. You are clearly stating, that your help is conditional.

That is what ive been saying for years. this goes for any political party or individual. Get involved and improve your communities long before elections. You dont need to be voted in to give the court or your community a face lift. Between all the brains and professionals im sure you all can think of a way to raise some funds to fix up that little basketball court. by time elections come half your battle won because the people you supposed to represent will see you already working. its all a show and attempt to grasp power. a real servant of the people wouldnt even check for politics and government. Restore the Dominica club to its real purpose and splendor, that would be a good start. instead of talking nonsense for people about your olympic pool for people to practice to swim for olympics. that alone sounds dumb. you not even talking about the other facilities that go along with that.

better than what the present labour party has ever done for sports.
      example: Under the Labour Party;

A defending Dominica table tennis team regional champion team cannot afford to defend their championship because of lack of national support.

Outstanding atheletes eg; Angol and Linton do get the type of support they need to excel from our government.

A certain national team was stuck in some other country beacause of failure by the government to provide for their needs while representing our country.

Where is the swimming pool going to be built? in the public cemetery.or in the tennis club.or are you guys using part of the botanical garden. cause Roseau don’t even have any more space for cars much less for a swimming pool. Issac what you guys should do build a paying meter parking spot for all them vehicle that is coming into Roseau. then take the money that it’s generated from that and build this things in stock farm or anywhere close to Roseau that have land. but please make sure you get your plans together right before making these statements. If we all put our heads together we can do it. Dominica is allawe and is all of us that will fail or succeed…so lets work toether with Issac, he may not have all the answers but with us on his side we will see it thru

Isaac, you do not practice to swim for the Olympics. You train for the Olympics. That does not only include swimming, but weight training and everything else that will get you in top condition for the sport.

You should indeed look at building a swimming pool for general use, but forget about the Olympics. Unless you get serious about it and put the other pieces of the puzzle in place to send athletes who have a credible chance of winning a medal, that will be a total waste of money.

Stop trying to fool the people with these pie in the sky nonsense. Do things that are practical and gets us the biggest bang for our buck.
