Dominica will host for the Third Digicel Match – West Indies Vs Australia at the Windsor Park Stadium from April 23-27, 2012 and officials of the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) say “they are ready”.

“We are ready to host them,” Gifford Walsh, Events Manager of the DCA,  said.

“In receiving this Test Match, we feel that we’ve been given a gift and, like all gifts received, we have to show our appreciation and we are going to do everything within our power to ensure that Dominicans show up in large numbers on each and every day.  We need the public’s support and we need to show that we love and support West Indies cricket if we expect this journey of hosting international cricket to continue,” he said.

This is not the first time that the Aussies have come to Dominica, but it is the first in a long time. They were last here after Hurricane David in 1979, for the Kerry Packer World Series, when they played the West Indies before some 10,000 people at the old Windsor Park.

Emmanuel Nanthan, President of the DCA, says Dominica might be small in size but its sporting public consists of the biggest lovers of cricket in the Caribbean.

“Much was said about us when we got this match; it was said that we are a small country, that we only have 72,000 people.  We shall show that we are a small country but a proud country and we have 72,000 people who are passionate about cricket!” the DCA president stated.

Tickets for the Test Match are already on sale online at www.windiescricket.com.  This feature allows persons to purchase tickets using a credit card.  Persons can purchase up to 6 tickets per match with a maximum allocation of 40 tickets per booking.  Each ticket purchased online will attract a booking/admin charge of US$2.50.

Prices range from EC$15 for Grounds, EC$20 for the East Stand and EC$35 for all other stands.  Season tickets cover the first four days of the Test Match and cost EC$125.
Meanwhile, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has maintained that for all cricket matches in the West Indies, children 16 years and under and senior citizens (60 years and over) will be admitted free.  Each adult purchasing a ticket will be entitled to a maximum of five children’s tickets, while stocks last, and senior citizens, 60 years and over, will qualify for one free ticket for each day of play. Senior citizens will qualify if they were born before March 16th 1952. A valid I.D. is required in order to qualify.

The Aussie team arrived in the Caribbean on Saturday.

I hope when I take two days off work to go and see the cricket , I hope my employer don’t get mad at me. What for they to do give a public holiday, because if the King of Dominica say so then thy will be done. Our population so small and the majority that have a little dollar will be working whole day, I wonder who the stadium going to be full. I just asking!!!!!!.

Folks……………..This is a weekday test match, so please don’t get carried away and then criticize the Dominican public when the stadium is not full Monday-Friday.

There must be a very very valid reason to start a test match on a Monday. The test match should start on Friday which would entice much more people to attend and the weekend fun – make the test match more of a Caribbean affair.

The WICB really does not understand marketing and the Dominica public. I am most disappointed.

Before we blame the WICB (which unfortunately in some persons minds is the very appearance of evil), the packed international cricket schedule these days makes it very difficult to always get test matches on the most suitable days of the week. Within 2 or 3 weeks of the end of the WI vs Aus series, the West Indies have to take off for England for a series there in May then return to the Caribbean to host the New Zealand cricket team in June & July. The Windies then have to head out again in September for the World Cup T20 tournament in Sri Lanka.

Also I understand from a report that the international cricket television broadcasters may actually be pushing for more test matches to be played during weekdays as it seems that weekday test matches may actually be pulling massive TV right profits for them.

it hurts to see that for someone who is so passionate about cricket will b at work. i dont think the crowd will be the same compare to the last match at the park, since a high percentage of the population will be at work. The support will be a good one no matter what.

    Dear Patrons
Due to WICB protocols, it is necessary to see valid IDs upon claiming tickets every time. Expired ID does not qualify as valid. There are NO exceptions to these rules. We aspire to bring you the best cricket experience through high standards and quality service. Children ages sixteen (16) and under enter on a free ticket once you purchase an adult ticket. Children 16 and under tickets MUST BE requested from the local ticket office to guarantee seating together with the adult ticket. If you require children tickets please DO NOT PURCHASE your adult ticket online.
If you have children attending with you, DO NOT PURCHASE ONLINE. Please purchase your adult tickets at the local ticket office to guarantee seats together.
