WICB’s Nanthan slams Sammy

Nanthan (left) described comments by Sammy as irrelevant

The vice-president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Emmanuel Nanthan, yesterday launched a major broadside against Darren Sammy 48 hours after he led West Indies into the history books by becoming the first team to capture the T20 World Cup twice.

Nanton has blasted as “irrelevant, demeaning, insulting, and unfortunate” comments made by Sammy minutes after West Indies pulled off a stunning four-wicket victory over England to seal the title.

Sammy courted controversy when he hit out at the WICB for its lack of support and praised Prime Minister of Grenada Dr Keith Mitchell and CARICOM for messages of support, which inspired his team.

“So to try to make it look like the board was inefficient in any way is rather unfortunate,” declared Nanton in a radio interview in Dominica.

  1. cricket is not selling passports
    April 7, 2016

Nanton should never, I repeat never be on the WICB, because of the unethical way he was simply placed in the position of CEO of the PASSPORT-SELLING-Scheme, misnamed as Citizen-By-investment-Programme.

The position of Co-ordinator of that passport-selling scheme was advertised by Govt. One of the criteria for the top job was possession of a Masters degree in a related field. Nanton has no Masters degree In fact he has No degree. Someone who applied for that same job possess a Masters. Nanton was given the job, even though he did not have the qualifications.

Who got Tony Astaphan to be legal adviser to the WICB? To try to kibosh the recommendations and not implement change? All over the Caribbean, the cry is that the WICB should go and that includes Nanton. Selling passports is incompatible with WI cricket. Nanton has no authority, no moral or ethical standing to chastise any player. No accountability or transparency in those passport sales.. Cricket not so.

I think that Mano’s response rather hasty however it hurts my heart to see how much venue and diatribe that is hurled at Mano. Totally unfair. I don’t k ow anybody who love cricket more than Mano and I don’t know off anyone besides “Roota” who dedicated so much towards the sport. Before Dominica Cricket Association or WICB Mano was working very hard for the development and sustainability of cricket in Dominica. So to suggest that Mano is killing cricket is absolutely wrong, malicious and shameful.
We should be proud of Mano’s ascension with West Indies cricket.
It is OK to disagree with Mano’s position or response but it is certainly not kool that as,Dominicans we are trying to break him down

The views expressed by the WICB in this article in trying to condemn Sammy for speaking out reminds me of the quote from the French philosopher Voltaire.
Cet animal est tres méchant; Quand on l’attaque il se defend – which means “This animal is very wicked; When attacked it defends”.
Can you imagine troubling and taunting your neighbor’s dog every day like we sometimes did in childhood days. Then one day it bites you. You then run home screaming that the dog is bad and wicked because it bit you. It was just defending itself.

The players and the region too were suppressed and dealt a bad hand by WICB. Sammy and the region now speak out and defend – so they are wicked?!@

Where do we stand on “Truth and Reconciliation” ? As with the UBUNTU philosophy that embodied Nelson Mandela and the underlying principles of his of life and work to liberate.

The redemptive and reconciliatory aspect of his philosophy is that which we ought to, in fact I say Must emulate in Dominica.

Now Sammy is considered the bad guy – I also recall that there used to be a radio serial on radio Antilles Called KINKADE – just before the 6pm news and it always started with these words:
“They Called him an animal– ; they called him many things – but they lived to hail him a phenomenon, to worship at his shrines”. The same can be said of Sammy, Gayle and the “CHAMPION” West Indies team.
Instead of bashing them just embrace the redemptive and reconciliatory aspect of the UBUNTU philosophy

Mr. Nanthan, that was totally uncalled for. I find your remarks rather disappointing. Even though the Board’s back is to the wall, stay cool and sill strive to maintain a certain level of decorum.

You cannot be like the Evil Witch in Sleeping Beauty by slamming our captain at the time of West Indies purest joy! Facts are facts. If even half of what Sammy said is true, deep down you know this WICB should go!

Throughout history, sporting events have always brought people together and built a sense of solidarity. I don’t see the WICB winning the war against a team that has the full support of the Caribbean people. That game and victory had so many people showing their island pride. Even the people from other countries were congratulating the Windies and saying how they’ve never seen a more passionate and fun group of players, and the revelation by Sammy made the admiration even stronger.

On that note, people like Nanthan need to take a seat and be quiet.

The WICB seem to be suffering from Narcissistic Self-Destructive Syndrome (NSDS), an offshoot of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. IF the ENTIRE WICB do not disappear swiftly from the cricketing landscape then we are in for more puerile gimmicks. The Caribbean people must be saved from shame, disgrace, disrespect and impairment of the psyche and destruction of the will to succeed.

The Caribbean has suffered enough psychologically, emotionally, mentally, socially, financially and otherwise including the mistrust and suspicion that still persist in the region and internationally. We must restore and preserve our cricketing dignity and reputation, yea – our very image as West Indians whom the world must take seriously!!

THe WICB’s “macaqucrie, koshonie and bagai sort” has caused many to refer to us as brainless. This Narcissistic Self-Destructive Syndrome (NSDS) and the disease of “DISHONORITIS” must be eradicated completely.

Darren Sammy’s and Phil Simmon’s release of inner passion and yearning for saving the game of West Indian cricket can only be referred to as the “RAGE OF ANGELS”

It reminds me of the song from Darren Sammy’s compatriots the TRU TONES of St. Lucia in the early eighties (1980) from the Album: POWER STRUGGLES
BURNING EYES AND A HUNGRY BELLY

There’ve been times when I had to look to the sky
So the creator would see my face
And remember me too whom he brought into this place
With better days nowhere close in sight,
It seem a never ending fight
      Chorus
So let’s get rid of them Burning eyes and a hungry belly
save the children of tomorrow the tears and the sorrow
Burning eyes and a hungry belly could make an angel a lion and a preacher a killer,
Burning eyes and a hungry belly, never ever heard of such sweet misery
Burning eyes and a hungry belly, find its solution in a revolution

No wonder they are now finding a solution in a…

        April 7, 2016

No wonder they are now finding a solution in a revolution.

I also hope though that the cricketers themselves learn from their past mistakes and take the passion of these wins to propel them to perform and understand more profoundly what it means to represent the region. They should find a solution in scheduling so that many of them could give back more to Caribbean Cricket.

Sir Garfield Sobers and the other Legends “assiduously pioneered and laid the foundation upon which today’s cricketing meritocracy has built a dizzying pinnacle of cricketers – a pinnacle from which many of today’s cricketing inheritors often look down and scorn the base degrees from which they did ascend”. THAT TOO MUST STOP.

(Note: the excerpt in quotes is paraphrased from the forward by Hon. H. L. Christian in the Memoirs of S. J. Lewis (first SMA principal)

The cricketers too must now dust themselves and turn over a new chapter under a new structure guided by a MERITOCRACY philosophy of…

Nanthan When people go to watch cricket they don’t go to see you or Cameron or the rest of the incompetent jokers on the Board. So my advise to you and your board is resign immediately because it is clear you guys are dragging down the only common thing that binds us as a Caribbean people. Please brother for the love of the game please take your Board and go away. You guys new the problems long before Sammy exposed it you guys were playing hard ball not doing nothing to address it. I wish all the players would take some drastic measures to force you guys out because we know you guys will not step down

This is what happens when you put government operatives to govern anything. Power goes to their heads and you have to come genuflect at their alter. The government advertised a position requiring a Masters degree, this man might not have a school leaving certificate and it was given to him,so no wonder he is a force unto himself. He is Julius Caesar in the 21st century. The same way he slams Sammy for his comments, couldn’t he have waited for a while before opening his mouth.Allow the cricket fans some time to absorb the sweetness of the victory.Good leaders can’t afford to be so thin skinned

Boy Mano you can embarrass us in Possie eh. But I forgive you because you are too busy selling passports that you have no time for windies cricket.

Mano blasted Sammy’s statement as “irrelevant, demeaning, insulting, and unfortunate” but you could not point to one single thing he said that was untrue by showing us the truth. I expected you to say, the board called, emailed, texted the team when they beat India in the Semi final.

“making noise for losing $20,000 on one side but gaining $150,000 or $280,000 in some instances on the other hand and never ever said that to anybody.”

Mano, what regional competition are you talking about? How many of the players that made us Caribbean people proud that play in the regional competition to benefit from the raise? Will the likes of Sammy, Gayle, Bravo, Simmonds, Pollard, Badree, Russell and soon Brathwaite benefit? Mano, the St. Lucia govt named the stadium after Sammy and I guess Skerrit should name the morocco hotel after you.

Now note that there is no guarantee that these guys have a job tomorrow -they could get hurt, not selected etc. Some of them have families and commitments.

Cricket in Dominica is in shambles. Nanton has been President for how many Years? Next DCA elections, he will still be President, not because of performance but …………… Mark my words.

The players are genuinely earning their money through hard work, training,, playing on-the-field, in-the-hot sun. They do not have the power, status, rank , to earn money otherwise. The WI players can’t earn their living by selling passports, selling their sovereignty, selling their country to mafia and those with plenty, plenty money, but through their skills playing cricket Just one serious injury in their engagements playing, could cripple anyone of them for life.

Certainly the WICB has not been doing a good job at management of our cricket., to the point that recommendations by 3 separate bodies, appointed by the Board itself to look into governance etc, have not been implemented, for years.

Now, Tony Astaphan has been hired to give legal advise to the WICB? Thanks to ..
