Wills Strathmore Stevens dominates table tennis championship

Wills Strathmore Stevens continue to dominate in the Sports Division-organized Primary schools Table Tennis championships.  At the Goodwill Primary School Auditorium on Thursday, they won the team events in both the boys and girls categories with clean sweeps against the other participating schools – Paix Bouche, Bagatelle, Morne Prosper and Goodwill Primary.  Paix Bouche was the runner up in the team events.

In the girl’s singles, Michanda Dorsette, Terique Stevens, Shearl James and Amelia Austrie all from the Wills Strathmore Stevens, reached the semi finals.  Michanda Dorsette  won Shearl James 11 – 4, 11 – 4 to become the 2012 Primary Schools Girls Champion.

In the boy’s singles, the results were similar with Leath Charles, Raymond Gordon, Camron Challenger and Javon Prince all from the W.S.S. reaching the semi finals.

Leath Charles went on to win Javon Prince 11 – 7, 10 – 12, 11 – 6 to become the boys singles champion.

A total of thirty six boys and  eighteen girls participated in the tournament.  With new schools like Bagatelle participating and with more table tennis introduced and played in the  primary schools , it is hoped that table tennis will soon become more competitive among the primary schools.
