West Indies 2015 World Cup journey was brought to an emphatic end thanks to match-winning performances from New Zealand’s Martin Guptill and Trent Boult.

Guptill made a record-breaking double century and Boult bagged four wickets to secure a semi-final spot for New Zealand after they annihilated the West Indies by 143 runs in their quarter final match which started at 9.00 pm Friday evening (EST).

Guptill, dropped on four by Marlon Samuels, finished on 237 not out, the highest individual score in World Cup history and the second largest one-day international innings of all time, as he led New Zealand to 393 for six in their 50 overs at Wellington Stadium.

Boult led the restrictive bowling attack for New Zealand by taking four for 44 to move to the top of the tournament wicket-takers list with 19. The West Indies could only muster 250 in the 31.3 overs.

The kept up with the required run rate, reaching 200 in the 25th over, but by then they were already seven wickets down.

Chris Gayle, shrugging off the effects of a long-standing back injury, cracked 61 off 33 balls, including eight of the 31 sixes in the match as batsmen on both sides plundered the short boundaries.

New Zealand will now play South Africa in the first semi-final at Auckland’s Eden Park on Tuesday, with fellow co-hosts Australia facing defending champions India in Sydney two days later.

The present West Indies Team in fact I rather refer to them as the present losingdies Team continue to disappoint the region. Most of the world records broken in recent times are by teams playing against the Losingdies; I really do not mind we losing but is the way we loss. there is no pride no remorse no commitment; I mean scores may unattainable but at least show effort try to back the 50 overs nuh!- watching NZ and the others play even those who lost you could see or notice some form of commitment some form of pride. I remember listening to a post match interview with a South Africa player as oppose to West Indies Gayle- the African although his team won spoke very clear of the need for him and his team to improve on their performance as they go into the next round of matches and as a team they hope to achieve that – Gayle on the other hand was talking about “oh he will have to concentrate more on the game and less on party ” I mean compare the two responses and figure it out

What do we expect when we have been in rebuilding mode for the better part of a decade. The WICBC and regional boards are only concerned about lining their pockets, for them development of cricket is only talking points. The appointment of Holder as captain who has an almost invisible international resume speaks to the hopelessness of WI cricket with this present managment. @Cyrique the rubish you write leads me to believe that you are one of those getting financial benifits from the WICBC for doing nothing. But after india is paid there will be nothing left according to regional currency WICBC will have to pay EC$107.5 million or BBD$80 million or Guyana$7.8 billion or JA$4.6 billion or TT$252.8 million. When that is paid @Cyrique you know what :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

My dear please do not get personal with me. Bravo got us in this financial mess. We’re having a very good discussion here about our Cricket and if you can’t make an intelligent contribution without scurrilous allegations then back off!!

West Indies need to turn their losing ways around quickly. If we don’t, then overseas tour opportunuties will dry up quickly, leaving the WICB deep pockets empty and the players unable to compete against world class competition. Garcon, where did our “lovely” cricket go? Have you seen her? Someone told me they last saw her about 20 years ago strolling away with some fellas named Lara, Walsh, Ambrose, Hooper, Harper, Richardson and Simmons.

Shameful and lack of pride. That is the West Indies story from Board to players. What an embarrassment. The saddest part is they were oblivious of the situation.

What does one expect when our board allowed Lloyd and selectors to do what they did, and in return we rewarded Cameron and Mano with three more years? Isn’t this the same nonsense we encourage in the governance of Dominica, of which that same Mano might very well be paid as an advisor? We are too backward minded in the Caribbean! Which team in the world would do better when they dropped their coach less than 2 months before the WC, and followed that by dropping their best players like Bravo and Pollard two weeks before the WC. If that was no pure madness, then to see them take a young 23 year old man, who did not have a sure pick, never captained Barbados, and make him captain of Windies, when you have Sammy, Ramdin, Samuel, and Gayle, who all had WC xperience? Did we expect anything better when we have a failed Dwayne Smith opening with Gayle instead of Charles? Where s Powel? With all these murderous acts we expected something better?

You need to move on bruv!! Do you think that Bravo is the be all and end all of West Indies Cricket? We got to the quarter finals without Bravo et al!!’ England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and others were out!!! Were our guys more interested in being fit for the IPL!! Or was there a concerted effort to undermine Jason Holder so that he does not have a World Cup win under his belt? We were Two games away from lifting the Trophy – without Bravo, Pollard and Narine who’s supposed to be the best one day spinner in the world apparently he was not ready but he played for Trinidad against Guyana picking up 6 wickets and I understand he’ll be playing in the IPL next week!!!! What a ‘Patriot’ !! Think about that!! We had a very good side. Now you talk about Lloyd??? Back off mate!! Lloyd is Chairman of Selectors and this is the man who led us to three World Cup finals, lifting the Trophy twice!!! The pride that I felt being adorned by photos of Lloyd lifting that trophy – the ONLY black man to…

Calm down dear and get your facts right!! Jason Holder DID Captain Barbados!! Murderous Act?? What’s murderous is our guys placing their loyalties with the IPL!!! In any event Jason led us to the quarter final – that’s more than can be said of many others. Well done Jason!!! Now West Indies was at the bottom of the ladder for around 20 years. Taking that into consideration do you think we can become winners overnight? Has Bravo won anything as Captain??? If so was it 3 out of 27???? We’ll get there but must first rid ourselves of the pre madonners, money grabbers and the dead wood!! Way to go Windies!!!

@Cyrique, I have no problems with Holder. I believe he has a future. However, the timing was wrong. If they had seen leadership in him, then why did they make him vice captain of the Indian tour? To just cut off all our established players, including Sammy, though reinstated later just before the WC and make him captain was wrong and costly. I don’t when he captained Bados. You will have to prove that. Maybe if he did, he was just a substitute due to injury. I can’t remember him ever selected as captain for any series, except under 19. Concerning Clive Lloyd, you need to know the history because he dismantled our cricket when he took a group of our talented players and led them to play for Kerry Parker for more money. Also, Lloyd resigned as captain after disagreeing with the selectors on the eve of a Test against Australia (1977-78). So u need to know your stuff. Dominica is in this mess because after Pirro died, the took Skerrit from nowhere and made him PM. That killed DA flat!

@ Cyrique, My point is, if they had given Skerrit some time to learn to lead maybe Dominica would be a paradise today; but when they rushed him into leadership with NO prior experience he killed the country and every year it keeps getting worse because in other for him to fix a problem he created in 2005, he has to dig deeper holds and put us in deeper trouble. I see the same thing happening to Holder. He may have the ability but he first need to earn his pick. Then Barbados need to make him their captain and windies then appoints him as vice captain. Right now Bados sees Brathwaite as their future and made him captain ahead of Holder. For the test team since Brathwite has cemented his pick now and is very young, I would make him VC of windies. Sorry, Holder does not have a sure pick and should not be captain in any version as yet.

Lloyd won us 2 WORLD CUPS!!! Have we won any since!?? Lloyd made us walk very tall in the cricketing world. He played with pride for the Region. And by the way, I know the facts!! I’m a very patriotic DOMINICAN and a die hard Cricket fanatic since I was a child. I just wish our Cricketers were more loyal to our Cricket than the IPL!!!

No surprised! we were sent packing before the compitition started, the train was a reacked train, the milk was spoiled, and the wrong team was selected hense the disired result, A no brainer. I was surprised we lasted so long. Smfh. Change must come and must come yesterday for that train has to be brought back on tracks. Thanks Brian Lara. He too has drank the the stale milk. Every thing is upside down and inside out. But we voted for moreof the same. I rest!!!!!

The exit of West Indies from the World Cup is no surprise to West Indians, however, the move to make Jason Holder captain is the best thing that could happen to West Indies as this point. Whether we want to call him a batting or bowling all rounder, his leadership qualities and his way of thinking reminds me of a gentleman called Lennox Linton when he took over the leadership of UWP Team Dominica. I believe the West Indies selectors should go a step further and select Jason as the Test captain for the series against England.

@ Doc Love, I always support you but sure not this time. You talking about making Jason Holder captain of West Indies test team? My brother you comparing Jason Holder to the wise, visionary and gifted leader by the name of Lennox Linton? You will make people especially laborites dread Mr. Linton boy. Does he even have a test pick? As a fast bowler, which one of the bowlers would you drop to play him? Would you drop Taylor? Roach? Gabriel though erratic? Shane? Dropping him for anyone of the four would definitely make us much, much, weaker because he is not a wicket taker. In his 3 tests he has only taken 5 wickets with 2/26 being his best performance. In his 26 first class games he is yet to prove that he is a wicket taker. So he can’t make as a bowler. As a batter, who would you drop to play holder? Brathwait? Darren? Samuel? Chanderpaul? Johnson / Theophile? Ramdin? I cannot see them dropping any one for him. I was neve a huge fan of Sammy but I will pick him anytime over Holder

I am surprised they were not whitewashed in the preliminaries. I did not expect a team them to beat anyone when weeks before they left Clive Lloyd and Mano them dropped Dwayne Bravo and Pollard, two of the best all rounders in the world, who would probably make it on world eleven, and to make matters worse, we re-elected Cameron and Mano, as if to say we are proud of the direction we are going and therefore we want to continue. I don’t blame those players; I blame management and the Caribbean people for allowing this nonsense to continue.

What a waste of money on that West Indies Team – SMH, that money could go into some worthwhile venture , anything other than sponsoring these fellas to go on tours and run woman. I have seen it with my eyes in Barbados. There was a one day the following day and after ten when people are going in is when man dress and going out.

Are you serious at Anonymous? You are upset they going after women? If you are a real man, are you different? I cannot chastise them for going after women because that is the real nature of man, unless they are all seriously dedicated to God. I see pastors, prime ministers, government ministers and other men from all walks of life doing exactly what you accused them of doing and yet, come election time we vote them. I don not believe their behavior is any worse than that of those Australians or other teams that made to the semi’s. The only difference between our player and theirs is that they have a board that is seriously working on developing the game, while ours is politically elected. Another thing is most of our players are single young men that are fishing while theirs are young too, but most are married and God fearing

West Indies team used to be a source of pride, not embarrassment. Synptomatic of the state of Caribbean unity these days perhaps? Caricom, CCJ, OECS, CSME and yet we are as far apart as ever, everyone doing their own thing. I saw a live report on Aljazeera covering modern day slavery in Haiti, which they call Restavec and it shocked me. Perpetrated by its own people no less! So shameful Haiti is a Caricom member but why don’t we fix things like that first before even having lofty debates about reparation. I can’t even enjoy my cricket again after watching that.

Selectors must go!! wickets in hand we could have win that game because we were way ahead on the RR… most of the batsmen give their wicket away by playing rash shots….Jonathan Carter is a test player, drop Ramdin take a gamble on Simmons to wicketkeep, gayle needs an opening padner, Charles, Dwayne and Devon Smith has all failed, Pollard and Bravo should come back and Santoke should be playing. our bowling has been leaking too many runs…..PURE GABBAGE!!!!!!!!

    • Cyrique
      March 22, 2015

I’m not surprised that emotions are aroused because we’re out of the semi final. Everyone is blaming the Selectors for choosing a Team which led us to the Quarter Final. Where were we before that???! Being battered left right and centre under the leadership of Bravo who withdrew the guys from India, humiliating the Region and costing the WICB millions!!! New broom sweep clean. We need to get rid of the disloyal, freeloading dead wood! Jason is the way to go! Lloyd was only a few years older than Jason when he took over as Captain. Look what he achieved!!!
