Windsor Park stadium establishes itself as major cricket venue in the Caribbean

Roseau, Dominica– June 3, 2010………The Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica has firmly established itself as a major venue in the Caribbean for international cricket matches following two successful one-day internationals last weekend at the Chinese funded and constructed facility.

Although the West Indies went down to defeat against South Africa in both games, on Friday, May 28th and Sunday May 30th, Dominica was the winner especially on the Sunday when the facility with capacity of 12,000 was sold out.

While the first game last Friday attracted a good crowd, it was on Sunday that the crowds came out in full support of the West Indies team. In the last ten overs of the West Indies innings, the crowd in the stadium became even more boisterous as the West Indies batsmen, thanks to some lusty blows, soared past the 300 run mark.

The fact that Dominica, with a population of only 70,000 was able to attract such a huge crowd demonstrates to the West Indies Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council that the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica should always be on the  itinerary when international  touring teams visit the Caribbean.

The Windsor Park Stadium is a relatively new facility, having been opened in October 2007. Before the matches against South Africa last weekend, only two international cricket matches- against Bangladesh last year-  had taken place there.

It has always been my pleasure to hear Dominica is finnally getting out of the mental states of mind that we don’t need a Stadinm to play International Cricket, or we don’t need an Iternational Airport, because Antigua cannot maintained their own how Dominican can maintained one. I am very happy that the eyes of those in power finnally come to the understanding that Dominica will become the Island of dreams to many, not only to Dominicans but society on a whole. The time is coming when the outside world will be looking for a place to secure themself from trials and tribulation, and if Dominica follow-up to the standard of hope, faith, love and a clear vision then and only then Dominica will stand.

We Dominican still have to give credit to those who brought us thus far in the cricket world. We must give credit to the Shillingfords Phillip Laurent and others who devoted their life making Dominica be come known in the cricket world. Its their work we a building upon, therefore, we should not forget them. The Minister of Sport did a good thing by placing the names of these players on the Stadium board. In my opinon we should go even further name Streets after them, that would be a way of telling them we appricates their services in the cricket world.

I am still hoping and waiting to see Dominica have an Iternational Air port, and I think the Priminister should focus on the country that interested in helping Dominica to build an international airport. Its time that Dominicans stop going from port to port. While we are getting the help we should push our luck further. The Chines are very good at building airports let them give us one, and we will give all Chines airplane two-years free landing and two, or three hotel tax free for ten-years.

In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Firstly, I want to thank the All Mighty Allah for a beautiful weather on Sunday 30st May during the cricket match.

Secondly, I want to say congratulations to all the people of Dominica and abroad who came to support the West Indies. West Indies had our love and support and they gave us some sixes and fours. I witnessed a spectacular moment never to be forgotten.

The prophet Muhammad said in a tradition, ‘he who does not thank the people does not thank Allah.’ We thank the organizers and everyone who contributed one way or the other to make this event possible.

Thirdly, thumbs up for West Indies. Even if they lost the game but that is what true support is all about. When things are good, we support them, when things are challenging, we empathize and give a lending shoulder. You did well West Indies!!! Keep striving, you will rank #1 one day if Allah wills.

To our Dominican people, I say to you, let us work together and be positive. We must learn to constructively critize events, issues and policies, not to personally attack anyone. We need to be mature and civil in all aspects of our culture. Negativity is a poison and we must treat this poison with compassion and positivity. We must have faith in God as the first article of the constitution talks about God as the Supreme Legislator. Our motto is ‘Apres Bondie C’est la terre.’ Let us keep those things in mind thus setting a dynamic spiritual path to build our spirits on.

I hope that Allah will reward these humble effort in sharing my feedback.

    Peace to everyone.

    Muslim_Always.

Sean, I beg to disagree with your interpretation.
I understand your need to hype things as Da has always been behind.
The Chinese funded stadium as you so rightly indicated bla, bla, bla, bla. The Winsor Park has been in greater use as a dance hall center in comparism to it’s use as a cricketing venue.
For your lack of observation or hypocracy Sean The chinese has given the same gift to all the islands (Windwards). This is an indication of what the future holds.I hope we get many more despite the competition.Let’s see if we will ever get a test match.

Lord have mercy….where do these Dominicans come from? I mean, I mean…not for one minute Dominica can do anything good your eyes! Maybe you think Sean is biased…but do your research…ALL THE CRICKET OFFICIALS WERE AMAZED OF THE LEVEL OF SUPPORT IN DOMINICA…Tony Cozier said that we have made the case for Dominica as one of the best locations for cricket!!!! You watch and see we will be getting match after match!! Cricket is about there is money to be made in Dominica!

Then again you people said there would be no cricket in the stadium…go figure!

You are a complete and utter fool. Let me refer you to an article on http://www.cricinfo.com, which described the Windsor park as the best cricket ground in the WORLD. So in you haste to bring down your country, other people will not stand by and help you.

I am very happy for Dominica and all of the citizens.

A facility like this was long overdue.

Just imagine for a while if we were blessed with a facility like this in the 1980s and 1990s.

We would be talking about the higher level after the next level.

Meanwhile I am keeping my fingers crossed to see construction of the International Airport and a few planned hotels that have been in discussion for some years now become reality before 2015.

It is painful and hurtful to see how many Dominicans had to die and not see these developments.

I am pleased that the Stadium was able to host the Cricket…But do we really have 70 000 people on island? When was the last census done. Because the crowd in the park did not only consist of Dominicans but fans from other places came to see as well!!!

But the stadium was built by the communist Chinese and plenty people were criticizing it.

Where are all the naysayers like Stay Tuned and the others.

The stadium was worth it after all.
