You can transform football in Dominica – DFA Pres. to football coaches

President of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) Glen Etienne has told football coaches who attended a 3 day E License coaching course that they are now well positioned to transform the football landscape of this country. “You have been equipped with skills and competencies to make a difference in the lives of those under your charge. The last few days have provided and excellent opportunity for you to horn your skills and build on your knowledge of football coaching,” Etienne said.

He told participants that the E License coaching course has provided a launching pad for their coaching career. “I am sure that the last couple of days provided an opportunity for some self –introspection as it relates to your ability as a coach. Look at the course as a new beginning for you as a certified coach. You have been ideally placed to move up the coaching ladder and you should not let any opportunity for that upward mobility pass you by,” Etienne stated.

The DFA Boss told the coaches that in order to benefit from their training they now have to go back to their teams and clubs and begin to do some serious work. “Work with the players so as to ensure that they have the right ingredients for success. The hall mark of a quality coach is seeing the continuous improvements in his players. Design your coaching sessions so that it may be enjoyable and fun for the players. Motivate them to give their all and certainly you will see the results.” he advised, pointing out, “If you put in the quality of work required, I have every confidence that our football will move up a few notches. It will not happen overnight, but with time and quality hours, it sure will.”

Etienne promised the coaches that during this 2012-2014 football season, DFA personnel will be visiting them during their coaching sessions to provide technical support that may be required. “What we want to see is quality coaching and that persons who stand on the side lines as coach, are in fact, really coaching,” Etienne noted.

He said those who had indicated that they would participate in the course and failed to show up have done a dis service to their clubs and teams and “have robbed their players of quality coaching.”

The course E License course for football coaches was conducted by Vince Ganzberg and the United States Soccer Federation in collaboration with the DFA.

Get your facts straight Marlon Xavier. KP was at the course and he left before the start of the course. If he was interested he would have stayed regardless if his name was on a list or not.

Very disappointed in this guy. The DFA needs to have a serious talk with him. Very, very, disappointed. No respect.

If we really want to improve football in Dominica, I think we should start in the schools. As I look at this picture I see no primary or high school sports teacher present. This is not good for the sport of football in Dominica. This event is one that should expand to the schools as well and not only to clubs.

Why all u just like to criticize and not know the facts. the schools programs fall under the ministry of sports which is the sports division. DFA has a responsibility for the national leagues and not the school leagues my friend. gets your facts together and stop making stupid statements. If you didn’t know that school sports fall under the ministry of sports then I am so sry for you.

I support your point but the schools belong to the sports division and doesn’t fall under the DFA so they can do something along with the sports division but it doesn’t fully fall under the DFA to prepare school coaches u know.

Great job from Glen and we do hope that you get the cooperation from the players. I also hope that you get harlem to have its Annual General Meeting. I heard on the MATT Show that it is 10years now since the executive have nt have an AGM and that is a shame. I am a huge fan of Harlem and people in Newtown are angry about this.Where is all the money that they raise on that savannah going and also the Academy. I don’t even see much Newtown kids in the academy but I belive that more persons must get involved in such coaching prgrame of the association. Mr Pres it is a good start.

Laughable….every year the same bull. FIFA course. Collect free bags and gears. Do some paper work & practicals. Get qualified. Don’t join with no club/team. Wait for the next course. And the process continues.
When are we going to learn. Please DFA doesn’t mean Damn Foolish Asses, I think not. So put the bloody systems in place by ensuring that for persons to qualify for entry into these programs they must be part of an organization that is affiliated with the DFA or some government assisted/government school or recognized private school and if they qualify for the next level of the FIFA training then they must provide periodic and verifiable official detailed reports of their involvement with their organizations; and the DFA must put the proper procedures in place to ensure that adequate monitoring is being done. Failure to do so will result in the progressive decline in our standard of football no matter how much coaching is done. After all DNO don’t you know how many hundreds of thousands of Dollars have been expended on such programs yet our levels of soccer is on an all time low. I also think that the DFA must do a serious evaluation of this programe.

@Harlem please get your information correct before coming and make a fool of your self. Did you know that the persons in the course were nominated by their clubs? Did you know that DFA contacted the clubs and asked them to send a representative to take part in this course? Did you know that this course was done under the US Soccer Federation and that no free gears were given out. Did you know that this is the first course of that nature where you don’t get a participation certificate but instead you get an E License? Did you know that in order for you to move up to the D License that you must be an active coach? So please get your information straight before coming in here and making a fool of your self.

  6. True or False
    May 20, 2013

Something must be wrong with that picture. Like Marlon Xavier, I am concerned. There are 18 people in the picture. I identified 8 football officials. Is there one from the west? Is there one from the east? Is there one from the north east? Is there one from the south east? Is there one from the south? DFA… Let us get our act together for the development of football. The announcement if I remember well, said the coaching would be for premier and first division teams. If we are moving forward by insisting each team should have an official coach, it seems that we are terribly short and the coaches of clubs/teams are not supporting the DFA or they are only supporting when FIFA is providing expensive gear…True or false????????

the teams did not show the support that they were supposed to show and there were coaches who were at the meeting on Tuesday that didn’t come back for the start of the course. DFA cannot be blamed for teams not sending a representative. The invitation was sent out to all 8 premiere teams and all 16 div 1 teams to send a representative to the course. Some teams never responded.

Let us bring back the standard as they were in the 80’s. I remember , Mike, Benoiute, stoute, Chumby, (Harlem) Coacoa-shoe, Expensive, Renix, Foxy,Earl White( Kensbro) Glen amd his Bro (Pointe Michelle) Desmond and Red boy (Saints) St.Hillaire brothers(K-sacks) and so many more I can’t recall.
    Help me out guys.
Those were the days my friends

And you knew all of them because they were all playing at the winsor park right? that’s the major issue with football right now because we don’t have a central area where the games are being played and all the grounds are standing grounds and not everyone like going to a game and have to stand up and watch football. we need atleast to have the premiere games being played at the stadium and the fans will come back and players will work harder at that time because they don’t want to be seen a weak spot infront of huge crowds.

Congratulations to all the coaches and I hope you all take these good advise from Glen seriously.
The standard of football in Dominica really needs to be internationalized and you have the chance to do it now.
The Gov’t needs to show their support by building more football stadium to house international games.
I mean do you remember when Glen and them man were playing football in the 1980’s? lets bring the level back to that.

Before you open your mouth make sure that you are totally educated on the issue at hand. Does joe work with a local club? KP would have to be chosen by south east to represent them. Did u know that KP was there on Friday night and then went back? You are clearly looking for sports teachers from school which falls under sports-division. so take your concerns to sports division because the course was for coaches of premiere and division 1 teams mostly.
