A known defendant to the Court namely, Jay Joseph, has found himself in trouble with the law yet again.
The St. Joseph man is now remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison on six charges of theft of cell phones and other items at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH), belonging to employees and patients.
According to the charge of the police, it is alleged that on August 12, 2023, Joseph stole two black Alcatel DL3 cellphones, each valued at $374.00, which belonged to Jefferson Valarie and Conrad Hazel. He is also alleged to have taken a $75.00 Cortex Watch belonging to Hazel.
On the same day, Joseph stands further accused of stealing a blue Samsung GX cellphone valued at $1,000.00, which was the property of Norman Barben, as well as a black LG cellphone valued at $300.00, which belonged to Francois Barrie.
Additionally, Joseph allegedly stole one blue Samsung GXS52 phone valued at $1,600.00, belonging to Yakelen Infonte, and an Alcatel DL4 along with a phone case valued at $464.00, both of which were the property of Ingrid Pascal.
The final charge against Joseph by the police pertains to the theft of various items belonging to Desron Cyrus. These items include a Samsung GXG7 Pro cellphone valued at $800.00, a backpack valued at $55.00 containing $540.00 in cash, a leather wallet valued at $150.00, a $28.00 earplug, two pairs of Adidas long pants valued at $260.00, and two $80.00 Nike shorts.
Unrepresented at his Court appearance, the St. Joseph man pleaded not guilty to the seven charges.
The prosecution subsequently withdrew the charge bearing the name Francios Barrie since this complainant is now deceased.
There was no objection to bail but the accused man was unable to present a suitable surety to the Court to secure his release. Consequently, he was remanded into custody and the six matters were adjourned to January 4, 9, 16,23, and February 9 and 13, 2024, for separate trials.
