A new series which highlights young people in Dominica and what they’re doing to help themselves and the country, will be launched next week on Dominica News Online (DNO).
The series of articles is being written by student of English Literature and Mass Communication at the Dominica State College (DSC) and DNO intern, Sergeline Michel.
Michel says the goal of the series is to help create awareness about the work of these young people and hopefully, to help make their dreams a reality.
“The stories that we share might be the stepping stone to their big break and discovery. Sharing their stories will motivate others who are scared of being different or afraid of sharing their gifts and talents,” she stated.
Michel said the name ‘StarLight,’ was chosen for the series because she sees young people as the stars of today and the light to shine for a better tomorrow.
“If you look at the sky at night, the stars are there shining as bright as ever lighting up the sky and shining down on Earth. As a young person myself and an upcoming writer, it is interesting as to how our minds always work wonders and we come up with the best ideas, create amazing things and display amazing talents. Just like the stars at night, we are the stars of today and we should shine just as bright,”she explained.
The young people who will be highlighted in this series will come from all walks of life and backgrounds and will share different talents, skills and business ideas. The series will feature youth involved in entertainment, politics, education and entrepreneurship, among many others and the intention is to identify and highlight them wherever they can be found nationwide.
“We’re looking for the stars among us and trying to help give them the boost that they need to shine brighter and build a solid foundation for future generations,” Michel stated.
The series which was originally scheduled to begin this week, will now start next week.
If you know of a young person who’s involved in an undertaking that you think is worthy of being highlighted, please contact DNO.
Wonderful!!!!! That’s a great way of expressing our imaginations, especially the youth. We all have a story to tell and every story is different from the other. We are a brilliant people and I encourage the youth to to grasp this opportunity and continue to shine like the stars!
Good idea. Invite the owner of fresh juice who was recognised by the Queen as a young entrepreneur of the Caribbean, to share his insights to inspire up and coming young business minded people.
It’s about time this was started. Love the drive.
Go Serge, so proud of the woman you are becoming, you should highlight yourself in this series, your light has been shining since the day you were born. Good initiative!
