I have been made aware of the tragic death of a student of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School (ITSS) on the Edward Oliver Leblanc Highway, near the Salisbury junction this afternoon as a result of a vehicular accident. My deepest sympathies are extended to the family of this young student, and to his friends and teachers at the ITSS. Every life lost as a result of violence or avoidable tragedies like this, is one life too many. When it is of one so young, then the loss is even more keenly and deeply felt.
I wish to reiterate the call to all road users to respect traffic laws, and to exercise caution, prudence and good sense when traversing our roads, whether as drivers or pedestrians.
I also call on Dominicans to not use tragic events like these to seek to score cheap political points. I utterly denounce the live broadcast on Facebook by the former Parliamentary Representative for the Salisbury Constituency, Hector John, who accused me of driving past the scene of the accident this afternoon with no regard for the young boy who tragically lost his life. This is absolutely false. I have been occupied with matters of State in Roseau for the entire day, after which I proceeded to my home in Morne Daniel at 4pm.
As a father and as Prime Minister of this country, I am deeply saddened by this tragedy, and I pledge to the family my full support and that of the Government in this most difficult time.
I sincerely hope Prime minister Skerrit, that you take a strong stand against that idiot Hector John, don’t let him get away with his lying tongue, please Pm Skerrit, you cannot have low life people such as Hector John, and others scandalizing your good name in that way on social media, I am begging you please make an example of the b*****d or b*****ds get your lawyers out if you have not already done so, there is much to gain and nothing to lose.

To the prime minister: If you are so concerned about the death of this student, now is the time to make the roads safer. That highway passes through many villages on the west coast and motorist drive as if they are on the German Autobahn.
In the village of Coulibistrie, there is a church and primary school right on the highway and the speeds at which vehicles drive on that stretch pose a serious danger to kids and and church attendees, not to mention other pedestrians who walk along the road. Many people have been struck and killed along that road over the years, yet nothing has been done despite representation made to government on the issue.
So when a kid is struck while getting off the bus, it is not enough to extend condolences. It is an opportunity to do something to make the communities along that roadway safer.
Zandoli, if you or anyone else can build a road let us say 99.9% safe enough well my backside blue, there are many road users in Dominica and many other countries that should not be in charge of a motor vehicle or driving licence, take for example bus drivers with bad attitudes some are killers on the roads , I also come to the conclusion not only in Dominica but driving culture in the Caribbean is a joke, most of them would not be allow near a motor- way in the UK or Europe before taking a proper medical and driving test again.
