Joshua Francis calls on Roseau South constituents to stand together

Newtown residents get involved in the clean up after the flood

United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for the Roseau South constituency, Joshua Francis, has called on the people of the constituency to “stand in unity in the face of adversity,” in light of significant damage caused by severe flooding in the area.

In his statement, issued shortly after the flood, Francis expressed “profound concern” on behalf  of his wife and himself “about our losses and challenges  in Roseau South namely the people of Fond baron, Loubiere, Newtown, Wall House, Castle Comfort, Emshall, Eggleston, Giraudel, Kingshill, Fortune and Bath Estate, resulting from this unexpected tropical storm.”
He reminded residents of those areas that “We must be very grateful that there was no loss of life”, pointing out, “We must acknowledge, however, we have suffered severe losses as some of us have lost our houses and the contents thereof.”
Stating that one of the immediate challenges for the affected areas was to get back to normalcy, he said,  “so what  we need to do is to make sure that we get power restored as quickly as possible, make sure that people have clean drinking water, and waste water treatment plants are working. We should also ensure that those who have lost their houses have a resting place and warm meals to consume.”
According to the UWP hopeful for Roseau South, ” We must stand in unity in the face of adversity. We leave nobody behind. We must make sure that we respond as a Community (nation) and remind ourselves that whenever a Dominican is in need, all of us stand together to make sure that we’re providing the help that is required. This traditional ideology resonates particularly now during this Christmas season,”
Drawing on Dominica’s tradition of coudmen, neighbor helping neighbor, and resilience in the face of adversity, he urged young people of the constituency, “with the assistance of local and  central government,” to volunteer immediately to clean up the debris.
“And so my commitment to the people of Roseau South, and the people of Dominica is that that same spirit of togetherness will carry over all the way through until our work is done,” Francis stated.

@Red Hot You must be a Labour Party clown to have made such a silly comment. When people are affected, this surpasses politics. This man is what I consider to be a humble and caring person.
He is quite unlike the greedy ones we have taking all, and forgetting the poor of this country.

DNO here you go again. You failed to mention that Joshua Francis Is out of state. DNO is clearly playing the role of an organ of the uwp. Your omission of the fact that Joshua Francis is out of state is deliberate to put the best picture you can put of the uwp hopeful to give him the semblance of official authority.

DNO your motive is quite obvious

      December 28, 2013

What? The man is out of State? And he didn’t tell us that in his statement? What was the reason for such an big omission?

Roseau has a Mayor and city council. A UWP Parl Rep who has not yet resigned I believe; The DLP has all the Parliamentary Representatives in the other parts of Roseau and in the areas where the storm hit worse; and of course, the members of Cabinet which includes our Prime Minister and who will have to make all the decisions.

Whosoever ask the man to put out such a statement when he has no authority to do anything without government approval is doing him a disservice and now to find out he is not even on island makes it even ten times worse.

All the man had to do is what other Dominicans have done and are doing is express his concern and offer his services to the Government to help in anyway he can.

The UWP hopefuls must come better than that if they expect Dominicans to take them seriously. Wasn’t too long ago we heard they criticize Government help to the less fortunate. Disaster can strike anyone at anytime and anywhere and more people will need help when we less expect; they must learn that. There is a time for politics and a time for togetherness. This is no time for politics.

    December 27, 2013

Mr. Francis you continue to rise to the occasion and be counted. You are a caring and a humble man. A compassionate soul who is genuinely concerned about the welfare of all regardless of party colour, religion or belief. You are a son called to represent the interest of the people of Roseau South but have quickly become a household name and a well respected individual across the political spectrum.
You continue to inspire people, particularly the youth and continue to advocate for children. Every time you respond whether it is to foul mouth members of the Roosevelt Skerrit led administration or to man made/natural disaster, those responses always seem well timed and seasoned with salt. Keep up the good work my friend. Your constituents are looking up to you for this kind of leadership that just keep raising the bar. Young man you are a hard act to follow and we shall reward you at the polls for your kindred spirit and good will. Remain on task, pray without ceasing as the good Lord is moving things in your favor.

Stand together my foot! At the end of the day sweet words will not cut it.
Sweet words will not build a river wall at Castle Comfort.
Sweet words will not replace flooded homes.
Sweet words will not fix the bridge at Castle Comfort.
Sweet words will not stabilize the foundation of the pink house by the bridge
Sweet words will not move the container on the road.
Sweet words will not replace soaked and damaged furniture.
Sweet words will not prevent families from going hungry.
Sweet words will not put a roof over affected people.
Sweet words certainly did not bring out the trucks and other heavy equipment to do the clearing.
Sweet word will not dry the tears.

@patriot The inveterate liars in government must have given sweet words to you and delivered NOTHING.So you must express this level of disappointment at them.
Francis is not like that. HE WILL DELIVER TO HIS PEOPLE. DON’T burst any blood vessel, just reject those insultive and GREEDY ONES GOVERNING THIS COUNTRY, and there will surely be a reversal to your disappointments.
