United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for the Roseau South constituency, Joshua Francis, has called on the people of the constituency to “stand in unity in the face of adversity,” in light of significant damage caused by severe flooding in the area.
In his statement, issued shortly after the flood, Francis expressed “profound concern” on behalf of his wife and himself “about our losses and challenges in Roseau South namely the people of Fond baron, Loubiere, Newtown, Wall House, Castle Comfort, Emshall, Eggleston, Giraudel, Kingshill, Fortune and Bath Estate, resulting from this unexpected tropical storm.”
He reminded residents of those areas that “We must be very grateful that there was no loss of life”, pointing out, “We must acknowledge, however, we have suffered severe losses as some of us have lost our houses and the contents thereof.”
Stating that one of the immediate challenges for the affected areas was to get back to normalcy, he said, “so what we need to do is to make sure that we get power restored as quickly as possible, make sure that people have clean drinking water, and waste water treatment plants are working. We should also ensure that those who have lost their houses have a resting place and warm meals to consume.”
According to the UWP hopeful for Roseau South, ” We must stand in unity in the face of adversity. We leave nobody behind. We must make sure that we respond as a Community (nation) and remind ourselves that whenever a Dominican is in need, all of us stand together to make sure that we’re providing the help that is required. This traditional ideology resonates particularly now during this Christmas season,”
Drawing on Dominica’s tradition of coudmen, neighbor helping neighbor, and resilience in the face of adversity, he urged young people of the constituency, “with the assistance of local and central government,” to volunteer immediately to clean up the debris.
“And so my commitment to the people of Roseau South, and the people of Dominica is that that same spirit of togetherness will carry over all the way through until our work is done,” Francis stated.
Just wait to see i in case Francis is voted in it will be a different song singing.
Joshua! Joshua! Joshua! Joshua! I would like to shake thy hand.
Hello Dominicans, the man is not parl rep. I hear the man put out announcements on Q95. JF would you have hired backhoes and trucks out of your own pocket to help the people of Newtown. Would you have provided shelter for them. Well stupes. Man you are not the Parl Rep wait your turn we will see what you will do.
Pure ignorant statement. Quick to put politics in something where it’s not needed. That’s why Dominica will stay behind. All we good for is to give people maypwee
OMG hear who is speaking about putting politics in everything;a PURE UWPite! Are you serious Lycian?
@Red Hot You must be a Labour Party clown to have made such a silly comment. When people are affected, this surpasses politics. This man is what I consider to be a humble and caring person.
He is quite unlike the greedy ones we have taking all, and forgetting the poor of this country.
The words are said let’s see who is going to perform the action.Joshua your words are fancy but they mean nothing unless you put them in action.Sitting on the other of the waters and writing something for DNO to publish can’t solve anything.
dominicans are natural at that,we proved this after hurricane david and many more,we do need to be reminded, are we so far apart,or is it political fever catching us,a weather condition is serious fire,my people do not play with fire, there is a time and place for everything,in these disaster conditions,do not mix politics with events of natural disaster’s,watch the comments,DNO is read all over the globe.
@ forreal. Your next name should be “DOMINICAS BIGGEST HYPOCRITE”,,You have done worst than that on serious matters involving the state. Hypocrites like you have Dominica in this poor state.
I APPLAUD THE CONCERN SHOWN BY JOSHUA FRANCIS.

well done Francis…we need respected people and profesionals on parluiament….
Well done mr Francis powerful words of encouragement and hope. God Bless u
DNO here you go again. You failed to mention that Joshua Francis Is out of state. DNO is clearly playing the role of an organ of the uwp. Your omission of the fact that Joshua Francis is out of state is deliberate to put the best picture you can put of the uwp hopeful to give him the semblance of official authority.
DNO your motive is quite obvious

Nomination, its time to get rid of Ambrose. Please help Dominica get rid of these dishonest gambling men
@Nomination Committee So Skerrit can be out of state and he is PM (albeit till a few months again), what happen Joshua cannot be out of state? Is your brain smoked or not?
What? The man is out of State? And he didn’t tell us that in his statement? What was the reason for such an big omission?
Roseau has a Mayor and city council. A UWP Parl Rep who has not yet resigned I believe; The DLP has all the Parliamentary Representatives in the other parts of Roseau and in the areas where the storm hit worse; and of course, the members of Cabinet which includes our Prime Minister and who will have to make all the decisions.
Whosoever ask the man to put out such a statement when he has no authority to do anything without government approval is doing him a disservice and now to find out he is not even on island makes it even ten times worse.
All the man had to do is what other Dominicans have done and are doing is express his concern and offer his services to the Government to help in anyway he can.
The UWP hopefuls must come better than that if they expect Dominicans to take them seriously. Wasn’t too long ago we heard they criticize Government help to the less fortunate. Disaster can strike anyone at anytime and anywhere and more people will need help when we less expect; they must learn that. There is a time for politics and a time for togetherness. This is no time for politics.
Joshua always of the news,; Lennox, Watch Your Back!
Mr Francis’ statement is that of a statesman. He is of a different political pedigree. We need more of that.
But what the hell? How on earth is that news? Joshua Francis is a private citizen looking to contest an election. He in no way has any standings or moral authority to make such a statement
can’t you hear, and see with your two RED EYES, that he has brought a new brand of politics to Dominica…… NO MORE RUMSHOP NONSENSE. THIS IS FOR THE ARROGANT AND INSULTIVE LABOURITES.
That is just the point am trying to make.
You could not have said it better.
Thank You Francis. Love you so much. You have changed the political landscape in this poor country. Whereas before politicians knew only MAPE WEE, you have tried to stay away from that as much as you can.
I LIKE THAT, AND I AM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY.
God bless that man, called Joshua Francis. I am happy for the team. The spirit-is-a-moving all over UWP.
good god bless
We didnt see u anywhere Joshua…UWP Hope-fool!
Hold strong brother. Many of us are there with you.
Mr. Joshua Francis, Roseau South MP Hopeful… good state. did you go out to help with your shovel in your hand, since I didn’t see the Honorable Ambrose George. I guess he was tucked away safely in Belfast, the richman land while New Town swimming in mud..
Ambrose George and Rayburn Blackmoore were there..on the scene.. doh come so
Mr. Francis you continue to rise to the occasion and be counted. You are a caring and a humble man. A compassionate soul who is genuinely concerned about the welfare of all regardless of party colour, religion or belief. You are a son called to represent the interest of the people of Roseau South but have quickly become a household name and a well respected individual across the political spectrum.
You continue to inspire people, particularly the youth and continue to advocate for children. Every time you respond whether it is to foul mouth members of the Roosevelt Skerrit led administration or to man made/natural disaster, those responses always seem well timed and seasoned with salt. Keep up the good work my friend. Your constituents are looking up to you for this kind of leadership that just keep raising the bar. Young man you are a hard act to follow and we shall reward you at the polls for your kindred spirit and good will. Remain on task, pray without ceasing as the good Lord is moving things in your favor.
Stand together my foot! At the end of the day sweet words will not cut it.
Sweet words will not build a river wall at Castle Comfort.
Sweet words will not replace flooded homes.
Sweet words will not fix the bridge at Castle Comfort.
Sweet words will not stabilize the foundation of the pink house by the bridge
Sweet words will not move the container on the road.
Sweet words will not replace soaked and damaged furniture.
Sweet words will not prevent families from going hungry.
Sweet words will not put a roof over affected people.
Sweet words certainly did not bring out the trucks and other heavy equipment to do the clearing.
Sweet word will not dry the tears.
STEP ASIDE SON.
you have plenty courage to talk about sweet words; JF have not won election, he have not said sweet words and not kept his promise. You know a lot about sweet words because that is all you get and nothing is done.
@patriot The inveterate liars in government must have given sweet words to you and delivered NOTHING.So you must express this level of disappointment at them.
Francis is not like that. HE WILL DELIVER TO HIS PEOPLE. DON’T burst any blood vessel, just reject those insultive and GREEDY ONES GOVERNING THIS COUNTRY, and there will surely be a reversal to your disappointments.
Alas, stop confirming the fact that is plenty people like you in your party.
Great statement together we can lets put what separate’s us behind and join hands for the betterment of our communities
Subject to correction, I have not heard an official statement from Skeritt neither have I heard an address to the nation as Dr. Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister of St.Lucia, did in St. Lucia on Wednesday. Excellent job Mr. Joshau Francis. Can you imagine if you were the PalRep of the Newtown Constituency.
Mr. Francis when u all become the next government, please give persons jobs to maintain the CULVERTS in the ravines, when they are blocked that causes the damage, no where for the water to flow…and they have to start charging persons for disposing garbage in the ravines.
Thy will be done.
UWP hungry for power but wait still.
