Storm Warning still in effect for Dominica as Isaac moves closer

Position of Isaac on Wednesday morning

Weather authorities say Tropical Storm Isaac is becoming more organized. Outer bands are affecting portions of the Lesser Antilles.

According to the latest advisory from the Met Office, Dominica remains on a Tropical Storm WARNING.

A Tropical Storm Warning means that Tropical Storm conditions are EXPECTED somewhere within the Warning area, in this case within 24 hours.

At 5am, the center of Tropical Storm ISAAC was located near Latitude 15.5 North, Longitude 57.3 West or about 270 miles east of Dominica. ISAAC is moving toward the west near 18 mph and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the center of ISAAC is expected to pass near Dominica/Guadeloupe later today or early tonight.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and ISAAC could become a hurricane by Thursday. Sustained winds of 40 – 50 mph with higher gusts are likely to affect Dominica as the center of the system passes close to the island later today.

Rainfall totals of 4 – 8 inches are possible across the island with even higher amounts possible over mountainous areas. Some flash flooding is likely and residents in low lying areas are advised to take the necessary precautions.

Sea conditions are expected to be about 14 feet.

Residents are asked to continue to monitor the movement of Isaac closely and make all final arrangements and to stay away from areas prone to landslides and flash flooding.

Residents along the coastline should also be mindful of possible high sea swells.

You are working for an American company, there is no hurricane in America so the work must go on. Your manager said that everyone is not compelled to work. They just need to keep the company up and running. You are provided transportation and food. You all are ungrateful and lack understanding for the company you work. They should let you all go at all you home. A whole day, no rain, no wind, nothing but you complaining. ungrateful.

So are you implying the places that gets hit by a storm that the residents are not God’s children. I always find these remarks funny during these times. When there is no storm, we party like the devil. Every weekend is a fete par la and during these times we always remember it’s time to pray. Hmm! it’s ok to pray but God is not a God of our convenience, He is not a spare tire.

You do not even know what you are talking about. You have a very rare hatred for the Pm Skerrit and so does not even recognize or appreciate that PM Skerrit’s voice have been heard on Q95 all along. If you doubt me then ask Matt or Lennox. They have always broadcast PM Skerrit’s voice on Q, albeit always in a negative way. In fact just before he called and immediately thereafter, the norm continued. So get real.

I would say to the people of D’ICA listening to folks like Mr.Pascal and others in the disaster office instead of those who dont have the basic insight,so what happen if things changed tomorrow will the PM shut down the Island again advising the people to continue monitoring the weather is the best advise.
I dont understand the people of Dominica they just dont think before speaking out Mr.Pascal reported after staying up for hours to bring us informed and all we see is that he didnt do a good job and another thing some of the questions the people are calling about should be directed to the disaster officer what folks should be doing is the be on alert and prepear themselves instead of being to ignorant with their comments.
If they want something to talk about ask themselves why did the PM speak on only one radio station and will he shut down the Island tomorrow. Storms and Huricans are very serious matter so people stop the negative attitude.

It is a shame that since after the floodings of last year only communities of Mahaut, St Joseph, Massacre and Canefield are being mentioned as affected areas. Coulibistrie and more specifically the Lagoon Bay area was badly flooded. Reports were made to the village council and Government agencies of the raising of the ravine bed between the areas of Silson Laudat and Derrick Jeffry which renders the area more subseptible flooding and to date nothing has been done. The residence in the area are now facing a storm with a raised ravine bed. Only God knows what will happen today. There was enough time for the state to respond. At least Silson Laudat is a strong labourite and this should have motivated governments attention to this matter. But I suppose the constituency is a UWP stronghold, hence the neglect.
