Suspended police sergeant called back to work

dno news 1Police sergeant Philbert Bertrand, who was suspended from active duty from the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF), is expected to resume duties today.

The suspensions were made known in a letter dated October 23, 2012 signed by E. Ferrol, secretary of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Bertrand was suspended by the PSC following allegations that he may have been involved with drug traffickers and illicit gun activities.

However, he was cleared of all charges by an investigation conducted by Inspector Cuffy M.

“All I can say to you is that he has been called via the phone to report to duties by the chief…and it will be this week,” a  source told DNO.

According to the source, police chief Daniel Carbon called Bertrand and told him that he had received a letter from the Police Service Commission (PSC) requesting that “Bertrand return back to work on July 22, 2013.”

Was he suspended with pay? If not, loss of pay will have to be compensated.

Why was a letter not sent to him, in fact delivered to his home? Telephone him informing him about his reinstatement which should be followed by a letter. Why a phone call? This is not professional.

PS: I tried to send this. An error occurred on your Website. Sending it again. May it not show as a duplicate. I do not see the one I tried to send.

I think that a telephone call was sufficient to inform him of his reinstatement.Justice was done.A phone call in this case proved to be the professional act to transfer the information about the reinstatement and I am sure a letter was done.

Berchy, from a cop to a cop. Leave that thing alone. You love the force but the force does not like you. IT would take a week to state the facts but D.N.O will not allow that. But a word to the wise is enough. There`s life after the police Force. Been there done that. Once in our life time we have to walk away from somebody or something we all love. But it is what it is” the nature of the game in this day and age more so it is hard to perform as a dedicated officer. But its your call just remember you a police officer, and not a Politian. Good luck going forward. And long live The CommonWealth of Dominica Force.

This is Just the beginning, the state is gonna have to compensate Sergeant Bertrand for that. then we have Constable Ohssel Tyson who was unconstitutionally dismissed on April 23rd 2012, i can assure that his lawyers Dyer & Dyer a cooking up some serious law suits against the State. Tax Payers money again, they should deduct it from Carbons salary. Sgt Keep on working hard. and Tyo all i got to say to you is keep your wits about you, your day will be here soon.

I agree with you 100%, its time that the police officers who go about charging individuals left and right be educated and trained and know what charges to apply and when. I am trying to understand why does the Treasury have to pay Civil Suits for malicious errors of Officers who do not know the law. You Charging a man for Drug and Fire arm Trafficking without any evidence. This is total Crap. That officer who charged Phisbert should be fired or the one paying his law suit not the state. Then you the same officers charging man for Possession and intent to supply Drugs which were not found in their possession, how are you going to defend that in court. Another Law Suit. please stop that nonsense because the Treasury will keep running broke Settling Law suits for you Nonsensical abuse of power. Go and read the laws.

He was never charged. And I think he was being paid his full salary all the time. Seems like it was just an investigation and they did not want him around while they were doing it

  14. Police Too
    July 22, 2013

It is so strange that he is the officer who is being persecuted.
On the other hand he is one of the officers who will not take a bribe to let drugs land in Da or be transported out of the country.
He is a feared anti drug officer, the people who are involved in the trade know that, and as such use their connections to frustrate him.
But I want to tell all drug deallers that there are still good P.O who will not take a bribe to let drugs enter into Da.

So what is this? An Officer was accused of a wrong. Turns out after an investigation was conducted the Officer is cleared of any wrong doing – meaning he did not do what he was accused of doing. Hence the accusations against the Officer cannot be proven and there is not sufficient grounds to have him terminated from the Police Force. Police Officers have rights too and Police Officers also have a right to enjoy security of Employment as well.

If evidence were cancelled and prevented the course of justice , these things have a way of hunting the parties involved and we sit and call it Karma!!!

If reason and good conscience prevailed then we have nothing to worry about and so the Nation must compensate the Police Officer for loss of wages and if Police Officers were given promotion during the time of his absence the argument may arise and a determination based on previous performance of police duties may have to be made to consider the Police Officer for promotion as well.

Hard to say it but the law is there for all of us.

      • Is dat so
        July 22, 2013

What the hell does that mean Annoymous?
