Seven Dominicans including former Minister of Telecommunications Reginald Austrie have been honoured for their works in the telecommunications sector in the OECS.
Last night, the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) in celebrating its 10th anniversary held a ceremony at the Fort Young Hotel to honour these persons.
Chairman of the Integrity Commission Julian Johnson, telecoms director Sylvester Cadette, former permanent secretary Jenifer Astaphan and the late Roosevelt Douglas were among those recognised.
Telecommunications Minister Ambrose George, who addressed the ceremony, commended ECTEL and the NTRC for “having transformed the sector through a proper and transparent regime”.
He spoke of the organisation’s development of new and revised regulations to govern the sector among its other achievements.
Ron Abraham Snr! The truly honourable man in this situation
@WE’ve got to be kidding:
sad thing is that few people taking notice.. ah las pa pa bodiey
Who is the reason why every body walking around with two or more cell phones today?
Who went all the way to the Privy council to fight the Cables monopoly?
Who is the reason why telephone rates have tumbled in Dominica and the region?
Ron Abraham should have headed the list..
Because of Ron Abraham and Marpin Telecoms, ECTEL and NTRC exists today.
@just facts:
AGREEEEEEEEDD
Neither founder of MARPIN or Mr Williams ah tell you people have short term memory wwwiii
With all of this being said people, ECTEL is the Islands ran Institution, appointed by ministers of the Island states. food for thought.
How in God’s name wasn’t Ron Abraham selected for an award? C’mon guys!
Well Earl Williams may have turned out o be a major disappointment but we really should give him credit and the UWP for spearheading the fight on Marpin’s side for the freeing up of the telecommunication sector not only in Dominica but the region. Mr Austrie did a lot too but only after he took over from Pierro when Roosie died. Logic says Pierro should have gotten and so should Edison James.
On the other hand awards are not given to deserving people in Dominica except those given by the Cultural Division. Most of the awards go to Party Hacks. Look at the independence awards given to those for education. Cannot say what was their outstanding achievement at all except being freedomites who helped form DAT to weaken PSU.
please dominica please
i can never forget once i was in the public library,,,,,i picked up a caribbean magazine (can’t remember the name) and while scrolling i reached the middle page n dead in the middle with arms stretched out taking both pages of the middle was MR. Ronald Abraham,,,,,i never forget that time because i saw that he was getting his due praise from outsiders whereas in d/ca we have yet to give him his due praise,,,,every nation has their celebs and icons,,,,trust me mr. abraham is our icon,,,digicel,,orange,,at&t and all other telecoms even from mexico setting up shop in the caribbean have one man to thank for all that n its no other than Mr. Ron Abraham,,,,,,the classic example of an entreprenuer,,,he took on a lion but only had the strength of a moth,,,,yet still the light he struck on the lion shook it down,,,,now we have no monopoly in the telecoms industry in the c/bean becuz of him,,,,,,he paid dearly too,,,,he lost control of it,,,,,yeah they put him out,,,but do they own it now,,,,,marpin no longer ours,,,,i saw mr abraham for he visited my workplace,,,,i asked him if he had any feeling to open up another biz,,,,he simply said he thinking of it,,,,,,,well Mr. Abraham if u r reading this i’d like u to know that u r greatly appreciated for what u have done in dominica n if its God’s will that u have another business then i’ll be very happy
Hello ECTEL
Could someone tell me why was Ron Abraham not given an award? This is one of the Individuals who have brought us where we are today. It also meant that he sacrificed his dream as well.
food for thought.
THOSE PEOPLE THEY ARE RECOGNIZING SOUNDS FISHY,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FISHY WHO THEY THINK THEY FOOLING
AMBROSE GEORGE BETTER GET HIS FACTS RIGHT.
DOMINICA WAS THE FIRST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD TO BE FULLY TELECOMMUNICATION …. in other words the first country in the world where every village had a telephone .IN 1985 BY DAME EUGENIA CHARLES GOVERNMENT , UNDER The Ministry of DECEASED ALLYENE CARBON.
WHERE THE HELL THESE PEOPLE GET THEIR INFORMATION FROM… IT SEEM EVERY-TIME GOVERNMENT CHANGE THE HISTORY CHANGE ?
What’s all this honouring about, is ECTEL playing politics.
why honoure a dead man
What about Earl Williams former minister of communications and works who Started it all with marpin, do we have MEMOIRE POWL when it suits us, this is why this country will never move on because we too dam ungrateful, we must not leave out those who made their contributuion too
so much u all say goin on in telecoms sector and we telecoms engineers in Dca cant get interviews much less jobs!
What happened to the former owner /CEO of Marpin Telecoms Mr Ronald Abraham… Why was he not honored too?.he was the one who TRANSFORMED THE SECTOR not ECTEL nor NTRC.
No mention for the UWP government or Ron Abraham who challenged the Cable and Wireless monopoly and liberalised the telecoms sector in DA. – sackway gas are we ever going to get serious in this country?
