Time and money are expected to be saved and an improvement of service to citizens is anticipated after the government launched a new information App on Monday.
The “Government of Dominica Internal Directory Mobile Application (App),” which contains all contact information for government ministries and offices, was officially launched by Minister for Information, Telecommunications and Science, Kelvar Darroux.
He said the App represents the newest edition to the E-Government Program which commenced in 2009 and aims at improving the quality and timeliness of service delivery to citizens and business alike.
“The mobile application which we are now launching forms part of a thriving industry which utilizes computer programs designed to run on mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet computers,” he said. “The App also saves callers time and money since it enables immediate and direct access to telephone numbers, email and web addresses by clicking on the App. There is also the option of saving numbers into one’s contact for future use. Importantly, once downloaded unto the mobile device, internet connection is not required to access the contents of the App.”
Darroux noted that the Government of Dominica, through the Information Communication Technology Unit (ICTU), is beginning to leverage mobile apps to further engage citizens to understand and have access to important information and initiatives.
“The mobile App is free and is available for download on the government’s website, the Google Play Store, Apple and One Market and is optimized to work with Android and Windows devices. The Dominica Internal Directory Mobile app, affords easy access to the most up-to-date contact information by just clicking the app,” he continued.
A desktop version of the app is accessible through the government website at www.dominica.gov.dm under the service center tab on the home page and under the internal directory on the government intra-net govnet.
The Minister added that the launching of the app also signals the government’s continued commitment to improving the lives of citizens by providing increased, cheaper and timely access to them and improve business in the country.
Glad to see the Labour party is interested in furthering technology in Dominica
good job Darroux keep it up.
The app is nowhere to be found on either the government’s website or the playstore. If I’m wrong someone please post a link (which should have been in the article anyway)
