Internet blackout for thousands on Monday

Hundreds of thousands of Internet users in the United States whose computers are infected with a particularly nasty virus will be unable to access the Web starting on Monday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation will shut down Internet servers that it temporarily set up to support those affected by malicious software, called DNSChanger. Turning off those servers will knock all those still infected offline.

“Though the FBI tried to send notifications to those infected, it could not identify all of them, a spokesman said.”

Raise your hand if you would ever open an e-mail from the FBI.

I read of this some months ago. Two days ago I read another article about it.
DNO I wanted to email this latter one to you although I knew, you being the Media would hear of it and you did. :)
I am concerned. My computer system is Microsoft which was purchased with Dell. At the time I did not have a choice in the matter. It is a good system.
Recently I read an article on a Website about other systems. Some of those who commented did not give Microsoft a good review.
We will see what happens on Monday. My suggestion to those who specifically have home computers to turn them off on Sunday afternoon and do not access them until after Monday. I may unplug the system entirely. Prior to doing this I will speak to my Internet Provider.
Good luck to everyone and to me too. Hope our systems will not be affected.

Aww poor Jusitice and Truth don’t understand tech. Allow me to educate:

      Think of it like this.
The internet is like a system of roads. To get to it you connect through a bridge that directs you into the road network. However someone came along and created another bridge that basically directed you to some remote place where they can do what they please with you before you get into the actual road network. They put up a sign to make you think that this new bridge is the correct one. They also create some illusions in the remote area to make it look like it is the actual road network so you are none the wiser. However they are slowly robbing parts from your car each time you pass there.

The FBI, being the good guys that they are, come along and find this out. So they take hold of the remote area, capture the culprits and get around to trying to get everyone to get back to using the normal roadway.

However since everyone has their own personal bridge near their home it would be impractical to destroy them all so they decide to shutdown the remote area instead. As much as that solves the problem it creates another one. Those people that will keep using that wrong bridge will have no way of getting to the road network, not realizing that they only have to switch back to using the real bridge.

Then some smart person thinks. Hey I’ll just stay home that day when they destroy the remote area so I’m not affected. But guess what I won’t work like that because even if they drive out on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or the next year the remote area will still be destroyed and they won’t be able to pass through to get to the road network.

tl;dr Turning off your computer will not save you (if you are affected), you just need to get your computer checked out.

Get them hooked and cut them off. That was the goal from the beginning. And everyone will pay the price.

Stop being a fool and show off..I work for IT with IBM.
Just in April This week, security researchers discovered that a new computer virus had infected half a million Macs — about half of them in the United States. The same macs they said was immune to Viruses so before you consider those who use microsoft products as idiots, you may just be the BIGGER one.Do your research.

It is rather ironic that you put your name next to such idiotic statements. Is this your protocol, or are you leaning on the idiotic side yourself?

Anyone who uses Micro$oft products is an idiot, plain and simple.

Micro$oft is making billions on poorly designed products and everyone jumps along with them. Windows 7 is a mess and anyone with a limited amount of knowledge can comprise it. Don’t even let me start on Internet Explorer. CRAP!

I guess you must be one of the slaves of Micro$oft.

        Hahahahahahaha

      @ Dorival John

There may be some truth in this. I gave Microsoft technicians a good telling off – for Microsoft over the weekend. I spoke to more than one. What a waste of my time! I said that I will sue them – take them to Court for accessing my computer system, making changes without my knowledge and not informing me about them. They make changes, without your knowledge and computer users do not know what those changes are. They have no inkling! People turn on their computer and notice some changes and also with their browser. This makes no sense to me.
I saw some changes on my Panel Control and also on my Desktop and asked questions about it. They did not explain a thing. All I was told is that I have the option to use them or not and that if I wanted it changed, I will have to pay them $99.00 plus tax of course. Was I angry! I said that I will have to investigate it further. It may be the same case with others as Microsoft.
I also told them that I will write (send an email) to CTV Consumer Alert about this. They investigate complaints of consumers and report their findings but this may take a long time since they receive numerous complaints and queries. They inform us which products are expensive or not and how effective they are. Consumers are well-advised, if they listen to this Toronto TV Station (for those who reside here) when this information is aired during the News broadcast.
Therefore, I endorse what you stated about Microsoft based on my experience. In this case, they should not be hard on you. Experience is a good teacher and you have it.
