Landline Internet Mobile and Entertainment (LIME) is planning to roll out a new TV mobile service in Dominica and other islands that it serves.
LIME Dominica’s General Manager Jeffery Baptiste told reporters at a press conference last week that while a definite date cannot be attached to the launch of the service, the intent is to have the product in all islands that LIME serves. He said the service has already launched in Jamaica.
“We have incrementally started to unveil or to bring to life the “E” in LIME which is entertainment and most recently you would have seen in the media announcements of our launch of Mobile TV in Jamaica and the intent is to roll out that product in the other islands in which we operate,” Baptiste said.
“It is too early at this stage to speak to a specific time-line by which we will have that product in the Dominican market but the intent is yes to have that product,” Baptiste added.
Live television on a mobile phone is presently available in very few markets across the world but it will be a reality in Jamaica before Christmas 2010.
That was the promise from Chris Dehring, Chairman of LIME Jamaica and CMO of LIME Caribbean when the service was officially announced in Jamaica last month.
“LIME customers will be able to enjoy some of their favourite TV channels anytime and anywhere they want to,” he said, during a glitzy media briefing at the SportsMax Sports Zone in Jamaica. “It’s fantastic technology, but we are going to make it very affordable, and we are convinced that customers will be really excited by the possibilities. It will truly be a service for living, everyday.”
In a humorous reference to one of his company’s competitors, Mr Dehring added: “I’ve noticed one of our competitors is claiming to have 4G. Well if they have 4G… we must have “more G” since they don’t have this on their mobile network.”
waste of time…..reduce the internet rate instead.
@Anonymous:
I thought sat already had hdtv?? but i back up what u saying though…Dominica was the 1st country in the world to have 100% fiber optic network. We should be leading. Only now America and the UK using fiber optic..they well late lol.
@Objective View: you must be a rotten LIME employee
i think if you guys bring HDTV over your landline that would be a better investment
There is something called technology advancement but the question is whether they are applicable to certain markets.
LIME cannot regain or expand its marketshare on their core business( (Mobile,Landline and Internet) due to competition but are launching mobile TV . I see this as a failed strategy . In my humble opinion the focus should be to perfect the now current offering to your market using new technology(VOIP) and launch product like Mobile Wallet.(e-commerce)
If you want to drive your business and separate yourself from your competitor as a superior provider of telecom services this is where the focus should be for your core business.
1. Improve Customer service. 2 Reduce Pricing 3. Increase Bandwidth availablity 4. Reliable Network 5. Focus on forming a Mobile Community for Subscribers 4. Establish a customer more friendly and interactive website with frequent updated information.
Note: I would really like to see the business case for mobile TV
From my personal experience I can confirm LIME has best mobile coverage on island. I am aware of some friends with Digi phones who are unable to get proper reception on the Port Compound and some other parts of the island.
LIME also has a reliable fixed line network. I sometimes feel we do not give this company enough credit for the tremendous support they provide to most sectors of our economy…..
@Anonymous: i totally agree lol
As much as Caribbean perople love embracing technology (which is great!) ..I would be surprised if this is really viable from a business sense. It certainly is not what people reallty want. What people really want is not just market driven but affordable rates for voice, text and/or web..the promotional stuff just does not cut it…give people unlimited texts and voice options or permanent options for free nights and weekends…(Digicel, thanks for keeping their feet to the fire or it would have been a rip-off)
Even in the US with a huge market and a population of 300 Million, mobile TV is not a major attraction. Really, people will only be interested in such for special events; and I cant even imagine rates that could make this option that attractive.
Besides, how much good is it to say, Dominica will have it when give any month or year that this might be effected. I would be much more pleased if the GM could indicate in real terms what the improvements have been to the Dominican public in terms that they can relate to such as cell coverage improvement, reliability, customer service goals etc and specifically what public demands have been met.
lime made a big mistake by introducing roaming fee, lime is a delta alpha mike alpha serie serie company. go degi go
