Phase One of the construction of a Centre of Excellence and Innovation for ICT, which is being housed in the old wing of the Dominica State College (DSC), has completed, according to Minister for Information, Science, Telecommunications and Technology Kelver Darroux.
A site visit was held on Wednesday for members of the media and staff of the DSC.
The project is a collaborative effort between the government of Dominica and the Republic of India.
“The works were in two phases,” Darroux said. “We have just completed phase one which is the complete rehabilitation, renovation, electrical works and also the painting of the old wing of the state college.”
He noted that the first phase was done to the tune of $291,000.
Darroux indicated that thus far everything is on track.
“The Indian government will be sending to us a technical team sometime in August, to come and assess the works that have already been done here and to ensure that we have everything in place for the operational aspect of the centre,” he noted.
He indicated further that the Indian government will be providing all of the hardware and software for the building as well as the furniture and, “they will also be providing in the first two years two trainers who will begin operations at the Centre of Excellence and then they will train locals to take up from where they have left off after the two years.”
“This is a major step for the information and technology sector and we will be working collaboratively with the Dominica State College to enhance the courses that they have already have here, as well as provide additional courses for the Dominican population,” Darroux noted.
He said those who attend the institution will be trained in their respective courses and they will be “ready for the job market” or “to take up entrepreneurial development.”
He encouraged young person’s to take advantage of the training opportunities that will be made available at the Centre of Excellence commencing hop and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
If this build was build (I presume) for ICT, why is all the conduit on the surface like an after thought?
Well, they’re renovating an existing space, so since it looks like the walls are concrete then what they’re doing may be the only cost effective way to proceed. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Just so long as the computers and the training are good.
By the way, it’s nice to see Dominica working with a democratic country like India as a development partner for a change. I hope we see more of that.
Let me rephrase.for security purposes, please ensure that survalance cameras are installed upon completion
Kelvah ! What kinda Tablet You going to give us today ?
Is Charlie Jueng going to be a professor there ?
Yes, he is going to teach students how to upload computer viruses into peoples website, and home people’s computer, that’s the purpose that old geriatric Ambrose, and Skerrit has him in Dominica doing.
When he said he was working on Internet security, that’s what he meant. They brought him do damage people business in the country, I do not know why Dominicans tolerate such cynical, and evil people in our country. Vengeance is mine said the Lord, but sometime the native of a country need to become the avenger in order to protect the rights of our people; evil invaders; even if they are from St. Kitts!
More than three years ago Someone from St. Kitts warned that demon is trouble, and Dominicans should look, the man is dangerous, and should not be in our country, at tax payers expense.
i hope there will be cameras installed upon completion
