Ten Dominicans to receive scholarships to UWI Antigua Campus

UWI Antigua Campus facility

Ten Dominicans are expected to benefit from scholarships to study at the fourth landed Campus of the University of the West Indies in Five Islands thanks to the government of Antigua and Barbua.

The offer was made over the weekend by Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
He made his intention known during his weekly radio program.
He said the scholarships will be offered based on need.
The vision for the University is to serve Antiguans and Barbudans and the sub region offering affordable tuition to a people, who Browne believes, have been deprived for decades.
Last week, Professor, Sir Hillary Beckles announced the formal approval of the establishment of a campus of the UWI in the twin island state within the wider context of the country’s membership of the OECS.

Ten Dominican students to receive scholarships to UWI Antigua campus, but not before you pay the huge debt owing to the University.

The question is when will these scholarship be offered 2019 or 3years from now?

Please let us know because I am almost sure it will not be 2019 or 2020.

Gaston Browne is providing political mileage for Skerrit because I don’t believe this UWI in Antigua will be able to offer scholarships within 12months when they are only now breaking ground.

Where is the gratitude ? Where is the humanity in appreciating a generous gift from a friendly nation ? A gift that will benefit our children.
Thank you Hon Brown. God bless.

It a good thing that I am not as smart as those 5th graders. I see the building so it is real. I know Skerrit was in Antigua so the scholarship offer must be credible. The Header says UWI campus. I know of their campus in Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados that already exist. I know organizations, people and government sponsor scholarships. So why the fuss. Dominicans and other Caribbean nations get scholarship from various donors. But when our fellow ECCM brother make a generous offer woof, woof blue barkings.

Despite the goodies, you this lazy PM will still be discarded by the electorate .
Just see how your campaign trip to Antigua back fired!!
It has even helped Dominicans to coin a new term “”COOL OUT”””..
Skerrit I want my cool out ,and I will vote you out .
    Lazy!!!

Its all well and good that we have received 10 scholarships. We should all be happy for the recipients, but if memory serves me right, weren’t Dominicans offered scholarships for the loss or Ross? Was it a small pat on the back for the loss of Ross? Did something similar happen here with UWI? Were they on course to come to Dominica? Have we missed the opportunity or sold it, then our payment is 10 scholarships? Inquiring minds want to know. I might be dead wrong but it really sounds and feels fishy.

Thanks Mr Brown, offering jobs and education to Dominicans, seems your cup so full it overflowing.
Im curious, genuine question, are there any Antiguans who come to Dominica for work or school or something? As far as I know, Antiguans has(or have idk which one) a very distinct accent and can’t really say i’ve heard it around.
    Wonder why that is.

Politics at work. Politics at play. The university in Antigua does not belong to Antigua. The syllabus at the university has not been settled. Accommodation has not been handled. The university at this time is a paper university. So Gaston and Skerritt colluding to play politics is merely insulting to Dominicans. Not even an Antigua is certain as to the next move yet Browne is talking of scholarship. What will those scholarships entail? Still it cover accommodation or will they have to meet that like Antiguan students in Cuba and other places? Gaston! Skerritt! Come on!!
