‘These killings must stop’ – Deputy Police Chief on recent homicides

Deputy Police Chief Lincoln Corbette

The Dominica Police Force has strongly condemned the recent acts of violence resulting in the death of two male adults.

Lester Charles, 39 of Fond Cole was shot to death on Friday 13, 2022 in Yam Piece less than 36 hours after the shooting death of Ron Garth Jolly popularly known as Burn Brain.

The two recent killings have brought the total homicide in Dominica to 8, four resulting from the use of firearms.

“The police force condemns these violent behaviours of the public and is committed to employ every means necessary to address these crimes,” Deputy Police Chief Lincoln Corbette said. “These killings must stop, no one is above the law and there must be other means by which members of the public can resolve their differences.”

According to Corbette, taking the life of another is not the answer.

“We will aggressively pursue these perpetrators utilizing all the means at our disposal with a view of bringing them to justice,” he stated.

The police force is also soliciting the assistance of the general public to provide information regarding the fatal shootings.

The police can be reached at the Criminal Investigation Department 2665164, 2665165, 911 or 1-800-4486.

Corbette extended deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Deputy police chief, Lincoln Corbette, the involvement of the police top brass and some of the rank and file in corrupt behavior like the kidnapping of Choksi, must stop. When will the police live up once again to the oath of protecting and serving? The spineless brass endorses the harassment of patriotic citizens instead of having a physical presence to deter would-be criminal acts. I guess it’s easier for police to remain cooped up in the police station and only react after a crime has been committed. What a failure of leadership and ideas when the acting police chief thinks that the total population is engaged in criminal behavior. What about the killing of civilians in police custody as if the punishment for theft is death at the hands of the police who try to cover up the brutal murder. Better “must” come. Three fingers pointed right back at you.

The cabal must know that their evil has an end to it and the end is drawing near. All of a sudden Skerritt has awakened from his failed dream of the “next level” in which agriculture was on the back burner to him addressing heads of the region and touting the importance of agriculture. All this is because of the action of the Europeans to tighten visa requirements for entry into the Shenzhen region for improved security. Then the transfer of Judge Bernie Stephenson signals another screw in the cog of the wheel of oppression by the cabal. The police turned Tonton makoot in Dominica continues to single out patriots of the opposition to harass whilst tolerating those who are”red” to get a pass, which is reprehensible. The sad part of all this is we all will feel the effects of this bitter pill in one way or another and to some degree. What goes bad in the morning will turn into good in the end because it’s just not sustainable.

Sometimes I wonder if ole police is really an ole police.Claude Weeks was present, and on the scene in Marigot.when UWP supporters blocked and set fire on the street.Weeks was there when the supporters of UWP in Marigot assaulted the Archbishop and Bishop. He was in charge of operations when supporters of UWP extorted money from people coming from the DC Airport travelling through Marigot. The UWP supporters threatened to cut off people head if they did not pay. What did Weeks do?NOTHING.Any efficient ole police would know, there are three types of police(1)Book police (2)Book and action police and (3)Action police.ASP Claude Weeks is a teacher, very good at it.Weeks is not ready for a war.

While i agree with you these killings must stop, the system in place presently allows for those killings. Killers walk on the street when they are given bail, or if convicted they get minimum sentences so that’s why these things will happen. The court system needs to be restructured and the old time days need to be brought back when convicted. So much things can be done to reduce crime but the power that be have other agendas.

I am sending an appeal to the law makers of our country. It is time to change the laws concerning governing the treatment of persons who end the life of another in our country. Persons feel that they can just kill somebody then get a few years in jail and return back on the streets while someone life has ended for eternity. If someone kills another person purposefully he or she should receive life imprisonment or the death sentence. That’s the only way people will change their operations because they will fear death themselves. These killings really need to stop in our country. This is going too far and Dominica is too much a small country for all of this. People need to begin to live their neither as themselves again and be each other’s keeper. Above all man need to fear God.

    Garçan you is More@$$!!!

Dominica doesn’t make guns neither does it make Bullets, so answer this “How are they getting on Dominica”???

Dominica have a finite amount of Square miles!!!

If allyou really want to stop the violence with guns allyou have to do is do a serious campaign, and weed out all them potential Gunman dem that allyou already have data on that’s on the island,,,

Stop the foolishness and get focused biff up the patrol around the island and biff up the security at the ports,,,

Allyou was able to put everybody in check when allyou claim there was a Virus running around killing people, and allyou didn’t even know where it was coming from and couldn’t see it,,,

So why allyou cannot put in place a program to put all them potential Gunman Dem in check!!!

But then again if there is total peace islandwide there won’t be no need for Policing, so allyou have to justify allyou existence by keeping the violence up,,,

Sorry Deputy “Cor.m.ish” nice try, but I don’t think you are the most suitable one to be the spokesperson for the Dominica Police Force at this or any other time; your tarnished image is not the voice the public wants to hear; ASP Claude Weeks is the more influential and comforting individual that can breach the Public/Police divide which is so critical and vital in solving these heinous crimes which continue to plague our once peaceful Nation.

Mr.Corbette I supported you for the post of Police Chief. How are these killings going to stop? The police know it is drug related and
the disrespect drug dealers have for each other. The police are doing a poor job of trying to stop the killings. In almost all constituency there are drug dealers, and the police know them by name and face.We have heard Matt Peltier say on Q95 he has been getting confidential information from senior police officers.I know for a fact drug dealers has been tipped off by police officers of an intended drug raid. Some police officers dress, act and speak like drug dealers and gangsters. You as deputy must discipline the men under your control, and weed out the crooks, traitors and vagabonds. That is the only way.

Corbett two individuals were killed in police custody. The police has not aggressively pursued the killings. No one gets a death penalty for stealing. Corbette you were involved in the attempted transfer of an individual in an effort to deny him his right to due process. You yourself had been involved in shooting and wounding an individual which almost cost you your job. Did you sir interfere with the state witness? Unlike the rest of Dominica i do not forget and pay attention. How often guys have been charged for murder only to spend a few months in jail only to be released to thier death. Meanwhile you guys have become ill discipline, politicized and corrupt. The police have lost the faith of public in them and the criminals move with impunity. Corbett you are the problem. When there is no definition btw police and criminals our society is lost. Go clean up the illegal guns on the street and stick to the oath you took. You should be fired already in my books. DA has gone to the dogs

Only if our Laws make provision for stiffer penalties, will this senseless killing stop, in addition, the police should be more strategic in the efforts of Crime solving. Every year, hundred and enlisted in the police force, but they are disciples of the same kind. Do we have forensic officers in Dominica? Are we equipped in gathering pieces of evidence, that points us to the perpetrators , or are we doing things as it were.A police officer is accused of sexually assaulting a young adult, he is offered bail in the sum of $30, 000.00 and his travelling documents are handed over to the authorities , but in the same breath, if he has to travel, with six months prior notice, then Permission is granted. Some things in Dominica are really laughable, because 30 thousands dollars can be at stack and I can run over to a foreign Country for ten years and return a free man. Help me in understanding the Laws that govern each Dominican in this Country.

So long as members of the public who have information stand firm to the self distractive standard of “Don’t taln to the police” and “Snitches Get Stitches” crime will forever remain unsolved. Who exactly are we protecting when we hide the criminals amongst us?

Is the deputy chief serious? There have been 8, eight homicides in a population of 60,000 persons, assuming that 8 people committed those killings, yet Corbette condemns the violent behavior of “the public”. What exactly is the deputy police chief saying? I understand him to be accusing the majority of the population of being a violent country at this time, which it’s not and has never been. What we need to hear from the police is that in a small country like Dominica they can solve murders quickly. Police spend too much of their limited resources including time harassing those who oppose the government instead of protecting and serving the constitutional laws of the country. The political elites are thin-skinned and the puppet police higher-ups who don’t earn their status are bending over to facilitate their political lords. Does the police have, and send its competent and deserving candidates to be trained in crime-fighting anymore? Stop harassing the public, do your job.

Mr. Lincoln Coebette, what is the relationship like between the DPF and the youthful population of Dominica?

Do you make any effort to engage the youths? Have you ever organised a forum with them to hear about their frustrations with the present system of governance? Have you ever take time out to listen to their dreams and asspirations?

I ask these questions because one of the biggest problems in Dominica is that we talk pass each other. We don’t listen and try to understand. Those in power – government, police, the hierarchy of the civil service, their type of rulership is always Top Down instead if Ground/Bottom Up. They think they know what is best for the people so they have to decide for them. They never listen to the people they serve to find out their most pressing needs, and how these can be accomplished.

This is the divide that leads to conflicts, confusion, and confrontation between the ruled and the rulers.

How could this hypocrite sit there with a straight face and say that the police condemn violence, when they are the ones perpetrating violence against innocent, law abiding citizens? Even elderly women, and children (tear gas) don’t escape their acts of brutality.

What I’m saying is simply this. The CDPF does not have the moral authority to speak out against violence when they are the ones who resort to it for every perceived, and fabricated problem.

Yes, we should stop this senseless violence. It does no one any good. But, I reiterate, the DPF (private militia) has no moral ground to stand on when it comes to this issue.
