“I have not been thinking about it” – Skerrit, on early elections

PM Skerrit
PM Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has once again refuted claims of early elections in Dominica.

The Prime Minister was addressing a gathering at a ceremony to mark the signing of the contracts for the construction of the Newtown Primary school.

He said, “For those who are speculating about election; how they see Skerrit in Portsmouth, he was in Capuchin, he was in Loubiere, he was in Silver Lake, he was in Colihaut, he was in College and he was in Dublanc, I am the Prime Minister of Dominica, I don’t have to go only to Vieille Case my constituency, I can go anywhere I want at any time.”

The Prime Minister stated further that he is simply meeting people, hearing from them and hearing their concerns while trying to address them.

He noted “I never write the date of elections down. So nobody can find it anywhere but certainly I have not been thinking about it, there are more pressing issues confronting the country to focus on than to focus on elections but whenever it is called I am ready.”

Some people have been speculating that the Prime Minister has been running a silent campaign particularly in underprivileged communities, in order to gain votes in the next general election.

The election is constitutionally due in 2015.

If he is not thinking about it, why should he be talking about it? What happen, the PM is talking without thinking?
Oh my dear PM, you are thinking about it so much that you are having sleepless nights.
A few weeks ago the talk was, If not Skerrit who? Now the discussion has changed. You see PM you asked Linton to get in the ring and you asked your supporters to put on their battle armor.
Your dilemma is you call elections now, it will be trouble and you delay it, more trouble.
The invincible PM appears to be scared to death. Now, please stop this Santa Clause thing, people are starting to feel insulted and angry. Just relax man, because God is Good all the time, but again for four years you abandon God.

DNO can you follow up on our FAO ambassador. The last we heard is that he was on the run but international news have reported that he turned himself in to the Italian police after hiding in the Dominican Republic for almost a year.
DNO can you find out whether or diplomatic passport was revoked or is it still in the hands of the FAO ambassador.
Also DNO can you request a report from the government on the achievement of all our ambassadors to include Ambassador A. Ormaybe the ambassador A himself may voluntarily provide Dominicans with an update on the the things he is doing.

So Joshua is really the Joshua in the Christian bible the only thing is that h seem to be interceding for the oppressed to the messiah Skerrit. So the people of Roseau South keep going to Joshua and graders, back hoe will be moving across the country overnight. Schools shall move from north to south, LPO shall be dispersed , Arab man check will eventually be cleared and the second baby will be an American citizen born in America.

Wey papa while patriots fighting for Dominica those in power prefer their baby born in America – Oh how I love my country but my child will not be borne in the country I love – let the red ants say amen.

Does any one remember the 100 day implementation plan that was included in the PM’s address after the 2009 election.

That 100 day plan was not pie in the sky nor was it an election gimmick. It shall be pursued and brought into effect within the next 90 days. That, ladies and gentlemen, you can take to the bank,” Skerrit said.

The Prime Minister had promised that his new administration would increase the minimum wage;, create 100 new positions for nurses and 150 jobs for teachers as well as reduce port charges by 20 per cent.

A hundred days after the speech there was suppose to be an employment agency and unemployment checks. ( SMFH and LOL).

Remember to a five star Hotel was included.

As instructed by the PM – you can take that to the bank” – well all the banks I went too told me me se sort ous sort pour kwen matere sa la”

you are no longer a prime minister that i admire. i think you are very unproffessional when it comes to dealing with the nation lies, games and someone under pressure. Remember what happen to the Antigua laobour party they saw it but did not want to believe that the mass is fed up. And the people spoke.U are hurting the Nation and you don”t even realize it. Is Skerrit losing it? At a meeting in Independence Street after the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court ruled on his dual citizenship matter and at the DLP Delegate Convention in Pointe Michel he told his supporters to be ready because the elections will be anytime soon. He is the one who planted the idea of an early polls. But he has come to realize that early elections will not be favourable for his party. People are losing their jobs, he has not found seven new candidates which is looking for, the government has $18m from China to spend in the communities, UWP is gaining momentum, etc. So, he is now backtracking.

The problem I believe is not the PM travelling around Dominica. In my opinion, the real issue is the political strategies of UWP. They were caught flat-footed before, and they will again. How the in the world could they not capitalize on the land dispute in Possie, and made this a national referendum on the DLP’s disrespect of loyal supports?

These scholars allowed Ian Douglass to take control of the movement (while they stood idly by) and then Ian directed the people;s movement in the direction where the DLP wanted it to go; now that the dispute is apparently being resolved and there is no more grumbling, maybe UWP gave up on Portsmouth…. here we go again with Labour in Possie, and my dream of seeing another party in power (in the VILLAGE of Possie as the DLP has designated it to become), has evaporated.

Can’t they see that the PM is setting them up again, and actually getting ready for elections!!

During the Labor Party’s Convention in Pointe Michel, Skeritt boasted how in 2009 when he announced the date of the General Elections, he caught the UWP with their pants down. Whether he announces it now or in 2015, from all appearances the UWP will be ready. Skeritt will not call the General Elections until he does something real big, for instance, the operation of the Geothermal project, the breaking ground or operation of the new hospital or the Portsmouth Marina.

Didn’t the UWP when they called elections for their first time, say they caught the then Opposition with their pants down?

And in 2013 they still vex. I mean why should the DLP call elections when they feel that they will win? Although we all know whenever elections are called DLP will win.

So only UWP can call snap elections then? Newsflash All PMs have the same right to call elections when they want within reason.

So sad that in these modern times under the cloud of “Democracy” can a leader be juggling the election date….makes me think, that slavery is still instilled in the minds of many in third world places.

When the lack lustre chatter about unity amongst OECS islands pop up, many a so call smart policy makers missed those critical issues of rule of law standards and regulations…it’s just a smoke screen issue in my view..they aren’t serious..

when you compare the other islands in the OCES they are far more advance than Dominica…

Dominica lacks standards and citizens are not stern on issues…a few will comment but in totality nothing bears fruit..

so in the end Dominica is rated the Poorest Caribbean island in the Eastern Part…

Our situation in Dominica is simple JOBS=Desensitized people. What do I mean by that statement. We are too busy working and ignoring the signs before our eyes; in many instances we are busy hording wealth and competing with the Jane and Mary-Jane. Preoccupation with the thought of, “Oh, that will not happen to my child because they have everything and more and we go on trips to the USA.” Growing as a child in Dominica I had fun memories of people caring (genuinely), correcting children who they don’t know, children realizing a person around them being older and commanded their respect, which would put an end to any vulgar conversations. Wow!!! These were the good old days, but now the dressing, language and life of many of our people leaves a lot to be desired, and not even our politicians speak up immediately when things go wrong like the pornography issue recently. They need to be heard almost instantaneously because these are our children and in like fashion if a parent does not correct a child ASAP when infractions are committed they see it as given them their freedom to continue. I believe we have lost our way as a people and our children who are keen on following our footsteps are in lockstep with us as adults and in many instances our shame is a day away because we have failed parenting class 101. Now, having said that what are we going to do? Are we going to remain so preoccupied with other people problems and not clean ours first? I believe that the social and political corruption flourish in our society because of the commonplace of our dysfunctional life. We need to cleanup our lives and by doing so we can discern what is right from wrong and standup for justice when our politicians do the wrong things. In fact our very lives we live in purity can serve as a deterrence to politicians measuring us to find out what we will allow as a society.

Who is the novice now? You seriously thought UWP would have taken that statement lying down or be caught with their pants down?

There is no way you can be ready for election anytime soon. There is simply too much unemployment all over Dominica.

China and UWP making sweet eyes and deals starting to make . You can vex all u want.

All what you attempt to give Dominica will simply give UWP the opportunity to take a marketing orientation and ask Dominica if is that they really want and give Dominicans the chance to tell them what they want from a government. That alone will force you to call an earlier election than you planned for to cut your losses sooner. Because you and me know UWP only has to say they have a people manifesto – plans and programs that the people have told them they want based on their island-wide consultations with the people – a manifesto coming from the ground up and not from the top down.

The problem is not the PM travelling around Dominica. In my opinion, the real issue is the political strategies of UWP. They were caught flat-footed before, and they will again. How the heck in the world could this -senseless party-not capitalize on the land dispute in Possie, and made this a national referendum on the DLP’s disrespect of loyal supports?

These knuckle-heads allowed Ian Douglass to take control of the movement (while they stood idly by) and then Ian direct the movement in the direction where the DLP wanted it to go; now that the dispute is being resolved and there is no more grumbling, except if UWP gave up on Portsmouth…. here we go again with Labor in Possie, and my dream as a Possie massive of seeing another party in power, in the VILLAGE that the DLP has designated it to become, has evaporated.

Can’t these blind bats see that the PM is setting the up again, and actually getting ready for elections!!

  78. Santa Claus
    October 11, 2013

I found a passage in the Holy Scriptures that very well described the thinking of Skerrit Matt. 24:3-4,32,33. “And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? And Jesus answered and said unto them…
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.”

Similarly, when you shall “See Skerrit in Portsmouth, in Capuchin, in Loubiere, in Silver Lake, he was in Colihaut, he was in College and he was in Dublanc” oops he forgot to say in Thibaud, know he is assessing the situation and wants to call an election around Christmas. Like Santa that always delivers gifts for Christmas, our political Santa is making wild promises and giving away gifts everywhere he goes.

Santa can only deliver around Christmas because that’s when he can get most Dominicans leaving abroad to come and vote for him since most persons are out on Christmas break. He will not trust Dominicans residing under his fire and heat to vote him in because he does not believe they will. So when we see him going in all those places he had turned his back on for 13 yrs, know that he is about to call an election, but things not looking bright at all Skero.

But of course the PM is not considering an early election. A resounding Awa I say to that! There is way too much work to do to try to convince the masses that he has lost.

I know this time around he is not confident about winning the elections. To call an early election when people are losing jobs all over the place, when there is great dispute over land in the north, just to name a few, would mean that the PM would be digging his proverbial pit.

So, in the mean time he is breaking ground like crazy-(hope we get no earthquakes from all that activity), LPOs are being handed out lavishly, and war is going out against pit toilets.

Some of those who want him gone are accusing him of planning an early election so that his government can retain power. Yet some other detractors are saying that for him to call elections now would be disastrous for him. Poor man. If he does something he is criticized. If he does nothing he is criticized. This is why the other political parties in Dominica have been performing so poorly. Not because they lack among their ranks people who could lead Dominica in a positive way but rather because they are too divided. The opposition parties need to be of one voice, one purpose and one desire. Without that, this Labour government will continue to make you eat their dust.

Call it early or late it doesn’t matter. Not that I care but labour is clearly going to win. I have never voted, and with not knowing which is lesser of the two evils I don’t intend to start either. But in Dominica labour has the majority easily. Until other parties start sorting themselves out and coming up with policies and how they intend to fund dominica’s progress, I am afraid it is hard to see a Dominica without labour in power. My opinion, and only my opinion, uwp should stop boycotting and start working smarter. At least give the illusion of working with the govt to move forward, while criticising effectively. If you ask me, smearing for the past how many years clearly isn’t working. It is time to draft policies and secure funds etc. freedom is well and truly in the ground, and as for any other independent party, pappi is third in line. That says a lot. Dominica needs a new political party, young intelligent fresh faces. People educated at the high lest level and specialising in a range of different industries and trades. Until we get a well mixed educated govt, I am afraid the hooha will carry on. I have to admit, labour have their moments when they do things I like and I so understand some of what uwp is saying. But you cannot tell me that the two main parties in this country cannot see that they are creating a segregated land. And Dominicans are even more foolish to make politics segregate them as a people. At the end of the day, a vote should be cast at election, the majority win and see you next election. Just my two cents. I am sure I will be slated but it’s how I call it like i see it
