Three Dominicans appointed to management positions in Windward Islands cricket

Marcellin

Clement Marcellin, President of the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA), has been elected Vice President of Windwards Cricket Inc (unopposed) and appointed as a Director of Cricket West Indies at the Windwards Island Cricket Board (WICB).

He will serve in his new capacity in the Windward Island Cricket setup alongside two other Dominicans: Liam Sebastien, who was re-elected as selector and manager of the Windwards Island Senior Men’s team, and Kimara Hurtault, who will manage the Windwards Island Under 19 Women’s squad.

The Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) congratulated its members, saying, “This speaks well for the direction of Dominica’s cricket and most importantly, the advancement of Windwards Island and West Indies Cricket. We wish them all the best.”

Marcellin has not responded to enquiries from Dominica News Online (DNO) on his plans for local and regional cricket development in light of his new position.

However, according to news reports, one of the critical items on the agenda at the WICB Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 4, 2023, held at the National Stadium in Grenada, was the presentation of a new strategic plan for the period 2023-2026, which includes five strategic imperatives and seven strategic objectives, which was adopted by the Board.

As stated by reelected president of the WICB Dwain Gill, “This strategic plan is consistent with the approach of Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB) in recent times. With this document, there is now a clear strategic focus and direction for the next three years. As a result, the Board would be better informed and guided to prioritize resources for the most critical areas.”

He continued, “Under my presidency, there will be a drive to implement this strategic plan. I am enthusiastic about working with my fellow directors and other stakeholders to realize the upliftment of cricket in the Windward Islands.”

The WICB technical director, Miles Bascombe, also gave a comprehensive presentation on cricket concerns, including talent pathway management for male and female players, at the AGM.

The Board also recognised Dr. Kishore Shallow, former WICB president, with the designation of honorary life Member of the WICB. Dr. Shallow was presented with a plaque commemorating his induction, by President Gill.

The full Board: Dwain Gill – President (CWI Representative), Clement Marcellin – Vice President (CWI Representative), Carol Henry – Director (Alternate CWI Representative), Johnson Richardson – Director (Alternate CWI Representative), Jamie Jno Baptiste – Director, Miles Bascombe – Director, Julian Charles – Director, Kerry Frank – Director, Samuel Holder – Director, Kezron Walters – Secretary and Jenry Ollivieree – Treasurer.

Spoo if there was no election from
an unopposed nomination was there an election nuh. I am going back to the uncontested nominations in the last General election when the bluebugs are saying that those unopposed were not legitimately elected. Just asking for Timal.

I will not congratulate Clement Marcellin because he asked me for my vote during the 2019 election and I gave it to him and also asked me for my vote so he could serve as political leader and deputy leader of my party UWP and as the current vice president of the party I don’t see him involved or connected to anything the party is doing. Under normal circumstances I would congratulate him but after we all witnessed how Nanthan and his DLP friends killed cricket in Dominica and the West Indies to the point that the legendary Sir Michael Holding referred to Dominica Cricket as a conduit for fueling questionable monies… To see the deputy leader of UWP getting so deeply involved with a dead thing and so close to enemies of our party, I now asking myself if this is another spell on deputy leaders of UWP like TimTim and Judas Iscarriot. So Clemo all I can say to you is good luck but you sure have me asking myself lots of questions

      @?????
If as you said (and you are right), cricket is dead in Dominica, them Marcellin is justified in being where he is. We need to see the sport out of the doldrums. Whatever Nanton did then, does not tarnish Marcellin’s image now. He can help to cleanse the organisation of whatever happened before. And yes, as a politician, he needs to work judiciously with enemies of the UWP. Didn’t you know that? That’s excellent on his part, and i commend him effusively for that!!. So i am still searching for the basis of your comment! If he is no longer connected to the party, (as you say, which could be false), well let him do what he wants!! Isn’t he a big man?

This comes at a time when cricket, (and indeed all sporting activities in Dominica), are at their lowest ebb.Gone are the days when Dominica dominated Windward Island Cricket with almost utter disdain!! The decline was not attributed directly to you all though! I believe the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), led by an evil man with hatred for young people massively contributed, when people like Justina Charles, and another lady, (i think from Paix Bouche), i don’t even knew her name, were given the role of Sports Ministers. Our playing fields were encroached on with buildings, and even used as dump and storage sites. WHAT A SHAME!! Hope that you all resurrect the sport that i love so much.Going forward:
Less T10, Less T20, More 2 day matches..
    Wish You All Well….!!
